I am looking into tuners for my 22 1500 5.7 etorque and have a few in mind I am considering but seeking anyone with real world experience with the predator x from diablosport DS-MFD18M.

Not much out there on it but has me intrigued. I rather keep my pcm to be able to swap back in if needed but I cannot find any info on what it comes with like some of their other options to understand the swap program fully. Is it coming with the unlocked pcm as their other kits do? I ask because there is zero mention to that, only statements on the pcm swap is to install the dongle, setup the app and then fill out the pcm swap form.... Ideally, I would grab a donor pcm to send back for the swap and keep my original pcm.

Price wise for $400 currently this option seems the best on paper vs the pulsar or trinity w/pcm packages. This predator x appears to do all that is offered by holley/edge/diablosport. Simply want to tune on the fly for hauling/towing, fun and when wife or kid may drive it, gauges, screens all that means nothing to me and the provided tunes from them is all I am after, not looking into custom tuning etc. cai, exhaust and tuner is as far as I will take it.

I ordered one and just received the package. It does not come with a PCM in the box. You get the by-pass module and the predator x OBD blue tooth dongle. There was literature in the box that advised to go to a holley webpage to apply for the unlocked PCM to be mailed to you "https://diablosport.com/pcm-ship". The predator X wasnt in the list and there is a blurb about "If you have purchased a DiabloSport product that is not on the list below and you need an unlocked PCM for your 2015+ Dodge/Ram/Chrysler/Jeep, please refer to the PCM Mail-In option. Cant find any reference on the site for "PCM Mail-In option" but I did find on the holley website a PCM cross ship option "www.holley.com/products/tuners_and_programmers/pcm/parts/PREAUTH-PCM". So I am going to fill that out and see if it works. I havent done it yet as it requires the stock PCM's calibration ID that is on the back of the PCM which you have to remove the PCM to read. I will be doing it later and hopefully tonight. I will keep you updated. I also emailed Holley about the Mail in option to see what they say but they havent answered back yet.

Thanks this is helpful as I have not pulled the trigger yet.
I wonder if the process to submit is within the phone app? Somewhere along the lines when I was diving in deep on research for some reason, I recall reading that.
May be best to hit up DiabloSport on facebook they seem to be responsive on there from my interactions with them.

The other aspect I was thinking and hoping of doing with the pcm swap is to buy a used one to send back in on the swap this way I could store the original to swap back in if needed. Just would make me feel comfortable.

The I ky reason to keep a stock PCM is to swap back in when taking to dealer for warranty. Thebo kynissue with that is the dealer wills be able to tell the PCM hasn't been installed in the truck for X number of miles, or X àmount of runtime. As the info stored on PCM won't match the truck itself.

If I recall correctly, Mother Ram can tell if the PCM has been removed, if it's been modified, if it's been flashed & reflashed..anything done to the PCM is recorded and can be read by Ram.
I'm not sure if the Pulsar leaves any trace since it's a pass-through, stacked "PCM" that leaves the OEM PCM in place without any actual programming modifications to it(?).

For me personally I dont care what the dealer sees I am past warranty phase and even removed the tbm telematics so they cannot communicate with my truck. They will never service my truck as I do all my own work. Only time I will take it to them is for a recall if the recall is worth the efforts to go through all that and even at that they cannot deny a recall repair if its on anything but the pcm in this scenario.

So then why worry about keeping your factory PCM and sending in a different one?

Only thing the Pulsar would show is that you removed power from the PCM.

Update, didnt need to pull pcm to get the calibration code. There is a window in the bracket so you can read the info. I filled out all the info for the Holley websites cross ship pcm program and they have taken the $1 pre auth off my credit card. Now I wait for it to be programmed and shipped to me. Im past warranty so I dont care about sending my pcm. I will update when I get it and install it. I am also shopping performance shorty headers and if all goes to plan, an upgraded tune from hemi fever for the bolt on parts that are/will be added.

Nice. Have you noticed whether features like the throttle adjust is available and working without the unlocked pcm swap? Wondering if some of the features in the app work in the process of waiting for the unlocked pcm swap to come in or is it like buying the kit hooking it up to capture information and then waiting days/weeks for the rest of it to come in before you can use it? I get the tunes parts of it won't work, so just focused on the features of the predator x that otherwise on other products an unlocked pcm is not needed and for mainly just the throttle response adjusting like the banks pedal monster I have now.
