Off Road Package Ride Quality

I'm considering ordering a 2026 1500. I'd like the Off Road package but no local dealers have one to test drive.

My question is, for those that have driven trucks both with and without the option, is there much difference in ride quality between the 2? If so, what?

Really depends what your preferences are. The ORG sits higher, and the OE Bilstein shocks are a little more firm. Are you going to lift anyway? Do you want the ORG for the skid plate package? The ORG as is (I have the night package) has 22" with Falken AT tires. It's ok. really good compromise on the highway and looks ok. but for off road? Not likely the 22" tires are the best pick.

I've had Rams with and without the ORG. For the money, take the ORG if you aren't going to do any mods to the truck. You won't be disappointed with the ride. Almost no derogatory aspects. But, if you're going to spend $3k on a lift and other tires/wheels then it's ok to skip it if you have another plan for the truck.

Can’t speak to the latest ORP but my 22 rebel is very comfortable. But there is much more sidewall on my 18” wheels. You get a lot of good stuff with the orp and if the ride is too stiff 18” wheels and tires in an sl rating would soften out the ride and personally I find the 18s with more sidewall looks more aggressive.

I traded in my 2025 Limited without the offroad package for a 2026 Tungsten that has it. I drove the Limited about 600 miles to Mark Dodge to trade it in, then drove the Tungsten back that same 600 miles the next day, so I was able to do a pretty good comparison. As the other mentions, the ride is a bit firmer and the truck sits about an inch higher. The truck feels a little bit "tighter" to me, if that makes any sense. I do like the ride on the new truck, but it think it's just a matter of personal preference. I'd be happy with either one.

To everyone's point, the 22" wheel/tire combo is ok but for sure you will have a better ride with more sidewall. I'm putting my 295/70/18 (34.5") on after my new suspension arrives this week.

I'm considering a Big Horn which will include the 20-inch tires. I have no plans to modify the truck in any way, I just wanted to have decent capabilities for the occasional farm road or hunting trail without sacrificing on-road comfort. I'd just get the protection group, but I do like the locking rear axle.

With the ORP you also get the lockers and the off road programs. As mentioned you get the under armor as well. The suspension isn't all that.

I dont know that it is the motor. The onboard computer can be shifted to differnt modes gor different terrains and you get pitch and yaw too as I recall. On my 19 I only get the locker, and descent controll along with the armor.

Right, if you play around there are different drive modes. sport, off road, snow, maybe other? but the off road pages in the infotainment screen will show angles, gauges for all fluids, pitch/yaw and if you need to replace the toilet paper roll (?) Forgot about all that stuff because I'm not sure it really is more than a 20 something's phone addiction link. I'm being funny of course.

Had a 2020 Laramie Night Edition without the ORG and now have a 2023 Laramie Night Edition with the ORG. Agree with everyone's comments and will add the front tow hooks are a great addition also. Have upgraded to Falken AT4's at 25000 miles. Love the tires. Great ride.

I had a '19 laramie ccsb 4x4 with the off road pkg. and it handled great for a truck. it had the hemi with 3.92 rear end and the e-locker and 20" wildpeak tires. I changed out the sway bar for the stiffer Helwig. I would still have that truck if we hadnt bought a 5th wheel rv.

So, the general response about the on-road ride quality here has been the OFG firms up the ride a "bit". As most know, things like this are subjective. The fact that no dealers around me stock them gives me pause but that may just be not wanting to run up the sticker with something many people don't give a crap about.

IF I can't find one to drive, it may just come down to flipping a coin.

I wasn't looking for the option when I bought my Tungsten, but the truck I liked had it. I do think it was worth the price, though. Even though I rarely go offroad, I like having the skid plates installed.

I'd personally think the Bilstein would be an upgrade over OEM. OEM wallows like a boat.

Its a starter package to start your build on. The lockers and skid plates are a great place to get started for off road. If you do it for any period of time you'll quickly find that the rest of the package is inadaquate. Then you'll know what to upgrade.

That's probably all true but, if you are off roading you do not want class c tires.

Everyone has been helpful, and I appreciate it.

I think I will order the OFG. It sounds like it will provide the features I find useful. No plans for hard core off-roading, I just like some overkill for what I do see this truck being used for.

It's been a while since I bought myself a truck. I've kept the last one 23 years, I think I'm due.
