Hey all, looking for advice on Ram or dealer covering “shift to park” issue.
My 2019 has had the shift to park/engine died while driving 3 times. Took it to dealer while out of warranty but still under 3rd party warranty. “Could not duplicate issue”.
Happened again but this time late at night on a canyon freeway and stranded my family for a long while on the side of a mountain with tiny shoulder. Had to climb up side of the hill and started a small fire to keep the kids warm. (Didn’t sit in the truck because it was close to the road). Almost collided with a car trying to merge without power traveling down a twisty road at high speed. This is a significant liability.

It has 71k miles and after 4 days of diagnosis, the dealer says I have an internal transmission problem and it has to be replaced. $4200. I brought it in while under warranty but they couldn’t find the issue, so now I’m stuck.

Wondering if this could be the rear window water RF or PCM reset issue. Has anyone else had this covered by Ram or the dealer? It’s also in for its 3rd exhaust leak and since RAM Care goodwilled one of the leaks, dealer says they won’t cover this because they only cover 1 lifetime repair.

Submit safety complaints to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration via the above link. This is one way how investigations get started and recalls are issued.

The dealer shows zero concern for this issue but acknowledges that it does happen. This truck has a recall for ECS software that may be dangerous while driving but not the motor shutting off? Give me a break.

After being stranded 3 times, 3 trips to the dealer with them having my truck a total of 3 months; we've finally found the issues:
1) Transmission was throwing erroneous "shift to park codes", manual stated valve body replacement, but techs recommended a full tranny swap and since Ram agreed to cover half the price of a new transmission ($4200, I paid $2100), I replaced the transmission.
2) 2 days later, shift to park and engine kill again while driving with a very hard time starting. Turned out to be the fuel pump relay. Should be a $10 relay, but Ram decided to integrate the relay into the TIPM (totally integrated power module) so I had to replace the whole part ($600).

Now runs perfectly. My suspicion is that the entire issue was causes only by the fuel relay, but the dealer insists the transmission was also faulty. I was due for a $900 tranny flush anyways, so I basically got a new transmission for $1200 whether I needed it or not. And boy is it smooth.

So after 3 months at the dealership and $2700, I'll write this summary statement for the forum search function; "shift to park error fixed by faulty fuel relay".

ps. Ask your service advisor to initiate a Ram Care ticket to see if they'll help cover the repair. They won't do it unless you ask (you can also ask yourself by calling Ram Care, but better if the dealer does it.)

Is fuel pump relay. k01/D823 not a replaceable component in your truck? It is in my 2019 Rebel.
Top center, gray relay labeled FP with a sharpie. Pulled it many times to keep the truck from starting after an oil change, to fill filter and build pressure, this was before discovering "clear flood" mode.
