Ram Guru
Well finally got around to install my Pacbrake Relocation Kit and Futumoto Valve kits the other day and I'm looking forward to my next oil change as this one was a PITA. This was my first oil change on my truck as I had an oil change package when I bought the truck.
Starting with the oil change, that was a pain and I'm glad I wont need to do that again. First I drained the oil and used the tinfoil method, wrapped the torsion bar and I made a "ramp" to direct the flow into my drain bucket, we'll that went to **** ended up getting more oil then I wanted on my driveway when the ramp failed (most ended up in the bucket). Then it was time for the filter, I tried the zip lock bag method but the filter just wouldn't turn no matter what I did, including using two hands from the front and back and still wouldn't turn. Then I tried the smalles4 filter band removal tool and it wasn't small enough to get tight and I was at my parents house so I didn't have my other filter tools. I ended up punching a long screw driver through it to drain, once that was finished draining end up putting about 5 additional puncture in the filter to use as leverage to finally turn the filter enough that I could finish by hand. Absolutely ridiculous, this has got to be the worst placement for both the drain plug and filter. If the filter was on so damn tight it probably would have been OK but still not ideal.
Next was the install, this went fairly well with just a few hiccups. I didn't have the correct size crows foot wrench so I couldn't torque the fittings to the proper specs, so I ended up just making sure they were snug. I installed the 90 deg fittings so they were loose then installed it with the hoses attached. I then installed the filter bracket and connected the hoses, once complete it marked the position of the fittings and removed the filter adaptor and tightened everything outside of the truck and then reinstalled. Once I tightened all the connections and the Futumoto Valve was installed I proceeded to fill the truck up with Penzoil 5w30 Ultta Platinum Synthetic oil. Started the truck and right away leaks, we'll I guess I forgot to tighten the hose connection at the filter adaptor so then I tightened it and again started the truck. Again I had a leak, turns out I didn't tighten the other hose fitting on the filter adaptor (my stupidity). It was getting late and probably trying to get it done and thought it was all done, 3rd luck was the charm and no leaks. Added the remaining oil and let it run checked the oil and everything was good. With the leaking it's hard to say what I put in but I would say around 7.5 liters. I am using the Fram Ultra XG, man it's a lot bigger than factory.
All in all this took me around 2.5/3hrs which includes the oil change, borrowing an adjustable wrench from the neighbor for the main connection on the filter adaptor and the setbacks with the oil change itself and not having everything tight. I'm 150% looking forward to the next oil change where I have easy access to the filter and the new drain plug, bonus I can do it without lifting my truck on ramps.
Oil pressure sitting around 45psi at 1300rpm, so within range. I can't remember the previous oil pressure but either way it's within the factory operating range.
I'll be keeping an eye on the fittings and hoses for leaks, but so far everything is good. The only thing I may do on the next oil change is to lower the filter 2" on the bracket to keep the lines flat, not that there is a problem with the way they are now.
I would recommend this kit, just to make things easier and less messy. I think this is a high quantity kit and worth spending the extra money over the cheaper brands you see on Amazon. If you don't have the money, I'd keep saving.
