Just kill the REV already. Until there's a MAJOR battery breakthrough, full-size electric trucks are not viable. They require massive batteries to have decent range, and the motors have to haul all that weight around, so efficiency goes down as range goes up. Those who value efficiency shouldn't be looking at a full size truck, and those that need a full size truck for full size truck things aren't going to have those needs met by an EV truck today.
Sales numbers back this up: the Rivian R1T outsells the F-150 Lightning, despite the former being a small startup with far less name recognition that Ford or F-150. (Cybertruck sales have also fallen off a cliff, but there are many factors involved there). Combined sales of Chevy Silverado EV and Sierra EV are about half of Lightning sales. And keep in mind that the leader, Rivian R1T, still sells only around 11,000 trucks a quarter, compared to 45,000 for the Ram 1500 and 190,000 for all Ford F-series.
Basically nobody cares about full-size electric trucks, and they are becoming less popular each quarter. By the time the REV makes it to market, F-150 Lightning sales might be 2,000/quarter if Ford doesn't decide to kill it by then.
I'm still a believe in the a range-extended EV like the Ramcharger. Ram should ditch the REV and put those resources fully behind the Ramcharger. Ford and Chevy should shift their EV truck focus to their midsize and compact offerings (an EV Maverick doesn't appeal to me personally, but would be a sensible option for many). If Ram really wants a full electric truck, get a gas or PHEV midsize truck to the US market first, then introduce an EV variant if the market demands one.
