I had a weird inconsistent rattle under the oil pan on startup. Went away after a minute. About 10 minutes down the road I had the check engine light come on and power lost. Took straight to dealer and it showed a cylinder 7 misfire. Pictures speak a 1000 words…

So I haven’t even been given a breakdown of what the repairs will consist of but the estimate was almost $6,000. I’m assuming that rattle was probably the rest of that lifter playing pinball inside the crankcase somewhere?

So, 5.7?

Happened to our 2014 some years ago, although no oil pan rattle. Cost was around $5000 then, but luckily covered under extended warranty. New lifters and camshaft.

So am I cooked or were you problem free after the repair? Some are telling me to trade it asap.

Nah man you just got a brand new cam w a warranty. If they checked the filter and it had metal in it they would have told you new engine.

Techs are doing these often under warranty. If you took it somewhere reputable idk why you wouldn’t trust them to do the work properly to not trust your vehicle.

It’s unfortunate though man I’m sorry that happened,

If no warranty i would have even considered a aftermarket cam.

if it's out of pocket i would go back with aftermarket cam and lifters.
if it's covered let them fix it and keep it because i would not trade it on a new 25 ram it has growing pains and everyone knows chevy is not a option right now.
i can't drive a ford so if it was me i would be kinda stuck.
