Hi all

I got and installed the AMP Research power steps on my 2024 REBEL 5.7 hemi E-TRQ crew cab short bed.

I have a # of problems with them from the get-go

  • Both motors Making clunking ratcheting noise going up and down.
  • In stowed position the steps are not parallel to the rocker panel, they’re closer to the rocker panel in the front then the rear by about ½” -3/4” in both sides.
  • When deployed the steps are not leveled across the stepping surface, the back side closer to the cab is 1/2” lower than the front of the stepping surface.
I’m wondering if any body on here experiencing similar problems with their steps.

I’m in contact with AMP regarding all these issues waiting to hear back from the engineering department.

i was looking at them for my 2019 rebel but i may go with mopar as i think they are built a bit better. Some others have reported clunking noises with amps and for the most part others have been satisfied. Keep us updated with what engineering comes back with

I've had 2 power wagons and installed the steps and had no issues. They were quiet and had no abnormal sounds. I just installed a set on my '24 Laramie and they have both the loud motor and clunk. Please keep us updated as to what Amp says.

When I installed the Amp boards on my ‘18 2500, the passenger side bound up at the pinch weld. I loosened the bolts and then stepped on the boards as per the instructions. Tightened up the bolts, worked perfect afterwards. My factory boards have more space showing at the rear end of the boards when retracted. Driver’s side worked with no problems.
OP, I don’t remember how perfect they deployed , meaning I’m not sure if they looked perfectly parallel when retracted. Maybe check to see if your mounting brackets are installed correctly.
I have the Mopar boards on my ‘22 Longhorn. The motors definitely make a sound when operating. Nothing that makes me think something’s not right. Same with my Amp boards on my ‘18.

Sorry for the delayed response, I was traveling.

Here’s AMP engineering response to the issues mentioned above

Motor clunking, in 2023 they switched motor brands and all or most motors from 2023 make that clunking noise and not considered to be a concern for longevity or reliability threat.

Steps not parallel to rocker panel (steps are closer to the rocker panel in the front then the rear by about ½” or more), they claim that the cab isn’t square.

Steps not flat across the width, cab side ½” lower across 6” width, they claim that it’s design to have 1-1/2 degree toward the cab.

So basically, everybody is at fault except for AMP design and manufacturing,

What a joke.

NOT @ ALL, for $1,800 the motors shouldn't clunck / squeal, and I'm suppose to hear it every time I open and close the door on an $80k truck for as long as I own it.
