Parking brake no longer auto release when manually set and truck put into gear.

As long as I have owned my 2019 Ram 1500, I have had the auto parking brake in uconnect set to off.

When I would park, I would manually apply the parking brake as needed.

When I would return to the truck, start it and shift into either reverse or drive, the parking brake would auto release.

Now, all of a sudden, it will no longer auto release. You can manually release the parking brake, but it won't auto release.

I went into uconnect and selected auto parking brake, that worked for a while, applying the brake when put into park and releasing the brakes when put into gear.

Then it intermittently would not work, not releasing the brake when put into gear, displaying an error message, the brake is already released.

Something electronic must have failed. Anyone experience this as well?

yeap. though that been happening to me since day 1.
i don't have auto parking brake on and only engage it manually as needed.

sometimes it works some times it doesn't. I THINK if i engage it and leave it parked for a while it will auto disengage when put in gear and not auto disengage if only just parked briefly. i never really paid attention though

You really have to laugh at the half-baked software they write to control this stuff!

Or are there just defective control modules or sensors that operate these sorts of things?

i really don't know.
i tend to think there's a logic or pattern behind this, as in certain conditions must be met for it to work that way.

Mine will not release with the seat belt on. A sensor must have gone bad.

I'm having all kinds of electronic issues. The GPS died. The dealer has a new radio ordered. The GPS is embedded on the radio. Radio is at least 45 days out. Ugh.

The air suspension no longer returns to normal ride height after Automatically lowering into aero mode at 65 mph. You can manually return the air suspension to normal ride height.

The service advisor told me that all these issues are related to the radio. Hmmmmm, not sure about that one.

There's also a pop up on the 12" Uconnect "Device not Supported " that keeps popping up repeatedly. It eventually stops after I dismiss it many times. Hopefully the dealer can diagnose all this BS and get it fixed.

Thank God FCA (after battling with them) gave me the 8 year bumper to bumper warranty on this POS. These repair cost would be out of hand.

Just a bit of advice. I'd never use this feature or even use the parking brake unless absolutely needed. I almost got stuck in another state because of an electrical issue that would not let it disengage. And there is no easy manual way of doing it. I could still drive the truck if it wasn't for this being engaged. After a few hours, I found the issue and fixed it, but I'll never use this again.

Someone on another thread here on 5th Gen suggested engaging the parking brake and letting the vehicle sit.

I wish I knew who to give credit to, but that worked for me. The truck sat a few days as I was using my daily driver (Hyundai Santa Fe) to go to and from work. I just tried the parking brake, now it disengages belted up and shifting into gear.

@vincent56 I agree with you. I only engage the brake when absolutely necessary.

Now maybe if I'm really lucky, the air suspension will fix itself by sitting as well.

Anyway, when the radio comes in, the POS goes back in, so the dealer can diagnose at that point.

Thanks for all the responses guys! I appreciate the help.

My 2019 was POS like yours (had over a dozen warranty claims) and I was glad I was able to trade it in 2021 at the height of the trade in market. I'm glad they gave you a 8 year extended warranty. I did get a 2022 and all of the new model issues were fixed if in the event you gave it a thought to trade up to a newer RAM rig.

The dealer got all the "broken stuff" fixed AGAIN under the 8 year bumper to bumper warranty. I no longer use the selling dealer, in Harrisburg as they were bought out by another owner and I do not like them. I use the dealer in York PA, which is about 1)2 Mike from where I work. They have treated me very well

I looked into trading for a 2025 same model and trim level. Other than being way overpriced, I do not like the redesigned interior. The Longhorn Limited trim is super guardy. They added filigree design all over the place and you can only get a brown interior rather than the black and new saddle which I ordered. I also don't care for the screen over the glove compartment. The truck is getting way too overcomplicated.

I custom ordered my Laramie Longhorn. I basically got the same as the Limited because I liked the look of the natural wood over the black wood. It cost $3,000 over the cost of the Limited, but was worth it to me.

I'm hoping this will be an end to repairs, but I have the air suspension and that's kind of asking for it!

If I do end up trading, it will most likely not be another Stellantis product because of the low quality control.

Has anyone else experienced issues with the handbrake not activating automatically when coming to a stop?

My driveway is on a slight incline, and a few times when I’ve stopped with my foot on the brake, the handbrake hasn’t engaged—almost leading to some unwanted "indoor parking" in the lounge! It’s also happened on flat surfaces.

Is this a known issue, or could I be doing something wrong? Any insights would be appreciated!

You mean after you put it in park, correct? If didn't engage automatically when you just come to a stop.
