2025 Ram, Power tail beeps multiple times and does open and stay closed.

Power tailgate: Dumbest idea ever.

Test drove a '25 Limited yesterday. Loved it. Saw that it had the power tailgate. Crushed the salesman's hopes and dreams when I told him I would not buy it with that tailgate.

May I ask you why the power tail gate is an unwanted item for you?

I can already remote open my tailgate. The built-in damper makes it lower softly. No need for a motor for that.

It has a spring (I guess) in it that makes it very light and easy to close. I have yet to think of a reason I would ever find it more convenient to close with a remote button than just lifting it up to close it by hand.

I'd much rather NOT have an electric motor in there, which is more easily broken than the way it works now, if it doesn't give me any significant benefit.

Lastly, I won't buy another truck with a regular tailgate at all, as long as the RAM multi-function tailgate is available. The MFT is SO much nicer than having a tailgate that will only open the "classic" way. And, as far as I know, the MFT does not have any option for power open/close.

I understand the thought process, but dang, I love the power-up feature. It has a button, but you can also just give it a little push, and up it goes. I also have a unique scenario in that I live in a ski town and drop/pick up my kid 4 days a week for ski team. Being able to just push a button from inside to open and close the tailgate has been awesome. I’m sure it will break at some point, but for now, it's a real asset.

Someone(s) needs to get stuff out of the back or put stuff in, and they can't close the tailgate themselves? (noting that you don't need a power gate to be able to open it remotely - just like my current non-power gate that I can open remotely) Being "power" only adds the benefit of closing it remotely.

I will grant you that I can see a possibility. I take something heavy out of the back of my truck and carry it somewhere. When I take it out, my hands are full and it's not feasible to close the gate without setting the "thing" down. Because it's heavy, I don't want to set it down. I just want to carry it to where it needs to go. Doing that and then hitting a button on my fob to close the gate instead of having to walk all the way back to the truck to do it would be handy in that case.

But, for ME, that would be pretty rare and I would still choose to not have the expense, weight, and potential reliability issues of having an electric motor in/for the tailgate.

And it is still moot, for me, unless and until they come out with a MFT that has a power close option. I use the MFT barn door-style all the time. Actually, I never open it "classic" style unless I'm loading my motorcycle or something else that is long and will require the gate to stay open, or if I'm just opening it to use as a table/bench.

I rarely need to take something out and walk away without being able to close it.

In my opinion, power closing doors and hatches are great on cars. Power closing tailgate on a truck is probably fine for people who only use their trucks as a car (we fall into this category now that I'm retired). But for anyone who uses their truck for hauling anything like gravel, dirt, mulch, hay...pretty much anything that is dirty, it's just asking for trouble. It's bad enough that the release is electric now instead of mechanical. That type of environment can play havoc with electrical connections over time. I'm also curious to know what happens when someone accidentally hits the close button when there's a few hundred pounds of lumber laying out of the truck bed on an open tailgate. I predict that in five years we're gonna start to see a bunch of people having trouble with their power tailgates.

I really enjoy mine and love the switch, just push the switch and up goes the gate. Like the fact I can just touch it too with a slight push, and it goes up manual too.

To get back on track- I believe it's the interior button, don't quote my thou...you have to hold it for the tailgate to move. Otherwise it beeps and goes nowhere.
