I am trying to upgrade my small-screen radio to a larger Apple carplay unit. Does anyone know of any other options than spending $uu1700 on infotainment units? That really was the only option a couple of years ago. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi everyone!

I wanted to bump this thread. I still can't find anything for less than $1700. I can find some Chinese products, but i have no idea which ones will actually work. Any and all help is appreciated!

For a budget system this one looks good, it's $800 and designed to replace either the 5" or 8..4" systems, it's supposed to be plug and play, no programming, no change in bezel. If you have Amazon prime, you should have no issues trying it out an returning for any reason should you not like it. For a few bucks more, you can add a replacement warranty for several years should you have an issue down the line.

I think there are some threads about similar units you may want to search, probably some Youtube videos as well.

Thanks! Anyone try one of these?

If I had the smaller radio you have OEM, I would go with this one:

I just found this on AliExpress: $1,067.33 | 14.4 Inch Car Radio For Dodge RAM 1500 2500 2020-2024 Android 13 GPS Navigation DVD Multimedia Player Head Unit Auto BT Stereo

It doesn’t appear to work with a factory 12” swap as it doesn’t replace the bezel. There are other options that reuse the OEM bezel, but this seems to be the most bang for the buck IMO.

I have had these Chinese Android radios in multiple vehicles. There is a bit of learning curve and required audio adjustments, but for me it has always been worth it. Spend the money to get the unit with the most RAM, you will not regret it. The only Chinese Android radios I have had trouble with is when they had 2gb of RAM or less.

I know our units can be expensive but it does with a warranty and we do put each radio unit we sell through quality control to make sure its not a lemon. Plus you get access to our support team for any issues that could come up during install or operation. We have a few options now including Uconnect 5 radios with wireless carplay if that is something that interests you. We prefer OEM solutions then aftermarket units but get what you a comfortable with spending the money on and has the features you want. Feel free to give our advisors a call, they can answer any questions you have about the upgrades we have available and some info on what is to come out.

So still having a hard time finding a replacement for this radio. Had to send back a couple. I have attached the exact setup of mine. Looking to spend under $800. I just want carplay. It's so annoying that it is so hard to find a radio replacement for these trucks. Any help is appreciated!

Any OEM radio upgrade will need a bezel upgrade as well as you'll loose your volume knob. The UBD 8.4" Uconnect 5 radio would be good for you or a UAG which is Uconnect 4 7" radio but does have build in carplay. Feel free to reach out to our advisor team to discuss your option at your price point.

It would be helpful to know what you have tried already. Also, you can get an add-on display that uses the aux connection on the radio to add a CarPlay interface to your vehicle.
