Yesterday my digital volts were fine, this morning on the volt readout on dash it was low and then after a few seconds it went right back to normal 14v idling. Noticed my remote start didn’t start the truck. Is this a bad battery? 2021 ram with 31k on it with original battery. Please help!

I'm pretty sure the remote start won't work if the battery voltage is below a certain level. Your battery is pretty much at end of life. Have you had it tested? You could just replace it and likely move on.

Replacing it tonight. It’s read 12v without it being on, once started it pops back to halfway and runs at 14v

I don't usually pay attention to my digital volts before I start it. After it is running it goes immediately to 14.2-14.3. Then stays there on short trips (less than 20 miles). I have seen it drop into mid 12's on long trips. Assuming it is charged up and the system is regulating the voltage at the terminals to that value? Is that how it works?

Remember that a 12v battery will show a lower than actual resting charge if it experiences any drain, such as turning on the accessories or even opening the door and having the doom light on. That 12v you see on the dash with the accessories on isn't accurate.

The best way to know your battery's true voltage is to open the hood and use a voltmeter after at least 15 - 30 minutes since the last voltage draw, that includes opening the door.

When engine on, it should read 13.9 - 14.6 depending on how charged your battery is. Mine goes from 14.5v to about 14.0v after 30-45 minutes of driving.

ya so at rest not running it reads 12v on a fluke meter. The ticks readout right at startup is below half have almost low, after a few min of running it goes back to halfway as normal.

Engine on my guage reads 14. When it is off the battery itself reads 12. Once I start the truck back up the battery reaches its normal halfway point.

Gotcha, so this is on the digital gauge, it's 14.0v when running or the mechanical gauge?

Running im 14v on dash. Truck off I test battery and it reads 12v. New battery I just grabbed is at 13 v not in truck.

My dash meter that’s there read less then half way on start up after few second it went back to halfway way as normal.

start wouldn’t work this morning but fired right up after I push the start button
