Fuel tank capacity

It's the 26 for sure. the other fella on here had a picture for comparison. Which makes me happy cause I wanna swap if I'm reading correctly I can save some cash because the fuel pumps are the same.

Did you do it yourself? Did you follow that post from 2021 or did you use another guide if so would you mind sharing? Or would all data be enough to get the idea?

I did not swap. I ordered the truck with the tank on it.

Did the swap successfully, adjusted for the 33 gallon tank etc. when I went to dispose of my stock tank I looked up the part number on the Evap canister and was for a 26G tank thats when I figured out maybe back in 2020 at least my Laramie came stock with the 26G tank standard (just wasn’t listed on the build sheet like the other additional tank options), as well as the fuel pump comparisons, as well as having the factory skid plates. My thesis… 26g tank. This was also without a lot of the other additional information out there then about the swap.

I do remember that originally the Ram 1500 came with a 26 gallon tank standard and the 33 was optional. Then at some point, they started putting a 23 gallon tank on the trucks with the e-torque system. I think the trucks with the hemi and no e-torque, the smallest gas tank you could get was always the 26 gallon tank.

^ thats the third tank strap mount. Some trucks have them there already, some don’t. Thats if you wanna run the 3rd tank fuel strap with the larger 33g tank. My truck didn’t have it but you can make get creative and make one or there’s use to be a member that had a friend that made some but required welding to the body. (Info on that is somewhere in the 33 gallon tank thread I linked in one of my prior post). You would also need the additional strap if you go this route p/n 52030458ab and a nut p/n 06104717aa.

^ If you’re missing the bracket and wanna run the 3rd tank strap you can make your own using some flat stock, some all thead, Riv nut or bolts and mount that bracket on the frame p/n 68418923AC.

I didn’t go this route mainly because I didn’t wanna wait on anymore parts to arrive and once the new tank was mounted it wasn’t budging what so ever just with the originally 2 strap installed. Plus I was also running the larger 33g skid plate so figured if one of the 2 tank straps was going to break the skid plate would catch it.

^ If you decide to run the 33 gallon skid plate besides some additional metric nuts and bolts that you can find locally most time … there’s a 3rd cross member #22 brace for the skid plate to mount to in the front p/n 68348386AB. I ordered one but it was on backorder for awhile and ended up eventually cancelling it. I will eventually add one again when I find it cheap or somewhere locally. So currently running without one with the skidplate installed for the last 15-20k miles.

I think my idea will work. There isn't much of a gap there at all. Get something like a sign post bolt it to the cross member looks like the cross member is slightly adjustable. Piece of mind and it'd allow for a skid plate later on. what do you think? Screenshot_20250213_133108_YouTube.jpg

If you get the longer skid plate just get the additional skid plate crossmember (even this isn’t necessary) I’m also currently running without it and have been for 20k issue miles.. tanks still there and mounted as stout as ever.

The third tank strap isn’t necessary either and just adds more peace of mind. My truck was missing the bracket and I never felt a reason to mock or make up one of my own.. the tank is mounted stout even when completely full it’s not going anywhere and this is before I even bothered to mount the skid plate up I wanted to make sure.

You don’t gotta overthink this.. been there done that. I drive this truck all over the country. Maybe if you offroad you’ll want the additional piece of mind but

My setup
-33g tank
-no 3rd tank strap
-33g skid plate w/o additional crossmember (i will eventually order one)

Go through the 33g thread there’s a good 3rd strap bracket setup another member made up out of simple steel stock and angle iron and posted it. There’s also the friend of a friend that made a more stout 3rd strap bracket similar to stock.

post #211 gonna require some welding ^

Or simple angle iron post #306

Obviously there’s more than one way to skin a fish. If I wasn’t pressed for time and needed to get ready to get back on the road and go out of state for another 6 months and I could waited on the additional bracket I would of just did what that guy did and made some of out steel stock and mounted with riv nuts but that would of just been for more piece of mind.

Is that a picture you’ve taken of your truck? Have you verified you don’t already have the 33g tank?

That's a screenshot from YouTube. I did get under the and look I have the 26 gallon not the 23 or 33. So that explains a lot.

Ok gotcha that helps and lowers the cost overall a good bit.

Yes sir, looks like it'll be 1200-1300. I have a launch scanner I believe I can change the gallons myself.

Yep that’s around what I had into it. Get a parts list and research the best prices. Buy some things on Ebay. I used moparpartsoverstock.com I think they had the best prices and cheapest shipping at that time. Bring your part #s and run down to your local Ram dealer and get a quote. Larger item that tend to come w/ a freight charge like the skid plate/tank sometimes are better to get through the dealer to avoid the freight charge but sometimes they just add that into the overall price so just compare. Most of us used AlfaOBD.

@Jesusisgod what year, trim, cab and bed configuration do you have? Just curious (I won't try and say you are wrong 😅)
If only you knew how many times I've ever had an equivalent of something like that said to me. If I'm wrong I'll admit I'm wrong. It's just hard to admit your wrong when you're always right. 🤣 I kid.

2024, bighorn, crew cab, 5.7 bed. I put a Pic up of some of the equipment details as well.

I know...it sucks being always right! I wouldn't know, though. It is interesting you got a 26. I wonder if it was what was left on the shelf, a mistake on the build, or an error on the Monroney. Either way, you made out pretty well.

Is the alfa settings permanent or do they go back to factory when you take it out of the obd2 slot? I have one just haven't activated it. I got the scanner at the same time n decided to use it for what I needed instead.

I'll see if I can find a dealer outside of the area I'm in that aren't idiots.

one over prices everything.

Second one overfilled my truck by a quart of oil. They also did repair work for a recent deer encounter. Terrible paint job, I had a trim piece they replaced fly off on the interstate, they didn't reattach the door trim properly so when I closed it just popped off. Left a layer of dust about 4 mm thick on the interior. Ripped the leather on my steering wheel. They broke more then they fixed. Got primer on my seats. Found a broken bolt last night when I went to look at the tank. That was fun to get out. Truck only has 11700 miles on it.

Hell I took it today to have the muffler cut off. Somehow the guy pushed the passenger tip 2 inches further out then the other side. Then literally said. "I don't know how to fix that"

My pour truck has had it rough already. Just needed to vent all that 🤣

Well the Lord blessed me with the spirit of discernment. I've always just been able to figure things out.

My grandmothers back hand also blessed me with knowing when I'm wrong to keep my mouth shut.

I Googled that p/n in the picture attached. One thing that came up was a fella talking about. For whatever reason Chrysler installed the 26 an didn't list the part number. I didn't look to hard, didn't find an actual 26 gallon tank under that part number.

So when you search it you don't get the actual part that's on the truck you get the 23 gallon. The window sticker and equipment will also say 23 gallon. If I'm reading what was said correctly. You'll also notice the letters in the p/n are not there.

Very sus Chrysler. 🤔

Also this is what came up from that link when I put in my vin. Ima run her to empty again, and do an uncut video of filling the tank at the fuel station. Also note my truck does not have the heated mirrors.

At about 6 minutes in he shows a side by side of the pump. Thought it was interesting that it's the same pump just a different floater. He said his is a 23 gallon.
