I Googled what 5 gallons of additional fuel means in the vehicle equipment. Saw it posted here in 2020 that it was 5 gallons added for delivery to dealer. I have a 23 gallon tank per window sticker.
The amount at the pump compared to how much I supposedly had left according to the fuel gauge never added up to me.
So I decided to test it with something I knew exactly what it held.
I have 6, 20 liter wavien Jerry cans. 20 liters is 5.28 gallons. I filled these cans up at a fueI station each at exactly 5.28 gallons. Logging the amount with each can. 6 x 5.28 is 31.68. I used the fill nozzle that comes with the cans. For those that don't know. It'll not let the tank over fill.
I preformed 3 separate tests.
1st test: I took 5 Jerry cans with 5.28 gallons each. When I got down to a qtr tank I decided to fill. I estimated I had roughly 5.75 gallons left. To my surprise at a qtr tank it took 4 full cans, and left only 2 gallons in the 5th. Now simple math says that's. Close to 29+ gallons.
I didn't want to make any assumptions. I simply logged the numbers and decided I needed to do a more accurate test.
2nd test: I ran the truck to empty, I didn't let it run out and die. I let it get to empty or as close to 0 gas as I felt comfortable with. Not good to let a fuel pump run dry. I took all 6 Jerry cans. Again it took 5 full cans(5.28 x 5 = 26.4) it also took about half (2.39 gallons) of the 6th can. 2.89 is how much was left. For a total of 28.79 gallons.
Sure some of that could be in the fill tube. Not 5 gallons worth. At best a qtr of a gallon is gonna fit between the Jerry can nozzle shut off, and the tank.
OK whut?
3rd test. At home I have a 60 gallon transfer tank. It has a digital gallon meter. Just like the pumps at a fuel station. I ran the truck to empty again. As far as I could before I felt the pump might run dry. I use the transfer tank to fill. Again it's just like the pumps at the local station. Automatic shut off etc. It filled the truck to 28.59.
Unless I'm missing something here 23 is actually 28-30 gallons. I'm aware they do not offer a 30 gallon tank. It's not a 33 gallon tank. Per the vehicle equipment list it's a 23. So either that 5 extra gallon thing on the vehicle equipment is a capacity of 5 gallons more, and not 5 gallons in the tank when shipped. Or I got a plus size tank labeled as a 23 gallon.
