Ram bed step issues

i picked up my used 2023 Big Horn/Born to Serve Edition Crew Cab, regular tailgate on Tuesday... coming from numerous Wranglers and a Gladiator, this is SWEET.

Last night I tried to install my Amazon step, but I could not get anything to line up. Possible considerations, it came in at 7:00 pm, I said **** it and got out the tools and a light, unbuckled the harness, took out the 21mm bolts, and then the rain started! yes, i probably should have checked the weather, but it was t-shirt weather at that time in new england, so i tried what I thought should be an easy install.

The part range said 19-22. Could this part have been for a classic? the ad said new body style: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CGTTCLX3?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
It looks identical to the mopar instructions and parts that fit my VIN. If it is for the 5th gen, have there been any changes in the bed or exhaust region?

I was trying my best not to take any paint off of the inside of the bumper but could barely get the thing up in the space. the "pin" that hooks into the frame was't even close to fitting.

I really want to get this step in!

Was the step extended when trying to install it? If not, it needs to be or you will probably never get it in and lined up.

It was. I actually tried both ways.

When I get home from work, i will remove the exhaust tip to give me a little more room to operate.

I installed the factory step, purchased from Marketplace, and it dropped right into place. I also didn't need to disconnect the wiring harness. I just removed the wire harness to frame plug, moved the cabling and installed the step. There were no clearance issues with the exhaust, wiring, frame mounts, etc. If you're having issues with the install, there's something wrong with the step you have.

Thanks. I will give it another try today, and if it wasn't meant to be, it goes back to amazon! I have scoured the internet for videos and writeups on this ... guys either say it is stupidly simple or a complete p.i.t.a. I guess I am one of the lucky ones!

The hardest part of mine was getting the wire harness clip to release from the frame. If that explains the difficulty level, then you understand just how easy it *should* be.

yup, i was one of the "lucky" ones. even with the tail pipe removed, there was no way it was fitting.

I will order a new one and try again!

Picture looks identical to the one I put on. Mine was Mopar though, takeoff from a '20. But I get a warning when I click on your link it won't fit a 24?

Having the OEM step on mine, I can tell you from that picture it’s not OEM or even close to it.
Not saying it won’t/can’t work, but mine is OEM and was part of the multi function tailgate package I “think”.. it’s been flawless.

Your picture looks like the one off Amazon from “JDM Speed” but I’d bet there are more using other names.
Also looking at pics on amazon, their step looks flat where yours is angled up.
Either it’s an adjustment… or it’s a bad one. I don’t see anything on the interwebs on adjustment, but I didn’t spend a ton of time looking. I’d contact manufacturer or seller and ask them.
It has a different step, if you have multi-function. Multi-function, the step is to the left of center, but comes straight back. Normal tailgate, the step is at the corner, and comes out at an angle.

the new one fit great. when I put the two Amazon steps side by side, the new one was MUCH nicer. it even came with a copy of the Mopar directions without the mopar logos.
