How would i know besides visual inspection if brake pads are near the end of life?
do i have electronic wear sensor dashboard light OR just a noise producing metal strip. or nothing

Visual inspection is it. Or when you start to hear that grinding noise.

Just do regular maintenance on your truck, and you will be able to see. Or whatever shop does your tire rotations should be looking at brakes at that time.

There are wear indicators built into the pads. They start to make a constant screeching noise when braking.
