I couldnt imagine not having one. Road trips to visit family, camping, or just hauling stuff in the rain or on a dusty road. If whatever is too big its easier to put it on a trailer anyway.
In the last 16 years ive never damaged a rim and had one blow out. Tires then were close to replacement anyway. To me thats a savings of what $990 or so and climbing until the day damage may occur.
That even includes driving cross country then proceeding up to alaska and back towing a trailer.
The engine still requires a break in. Internal components like the piston rings still have to seat. I seen fuel milage improvements up until 6000 miles and thats not because it was learning my driving habits... at very least its a waste of money.
Dosent sound like you keep them very long if...
Ive made two 16 hour drives. Never fun in any vehicle, but I was comfortable. Definitely the best seats Ive ever sat in. The ram just eats up the miles. Im 6'4" 205 if it helps. Running boards are pointless if your as tall or taller then me.
