It happened to me too and in my case it was enough to always keep the air conditioning on (winter and summer). no humidity is deposited in the air filter and therefore there are never bad smells.

I'm afraid what you were told is exactly correct. I can't say if it's a bug but it's certainly a (negative) feature. You own a 2023 but on the quick guide of my LTD my2022 this is written (see keep in mind):
