I don’t know that I really believe they’ll never roll it out, but I’m starting to doubt they’ll roll it out before I’m in the market for a new truck again. But I’m one of those guys that drive a lot of miles.
Seems like completing the features you're still bragging about for the trucks you already sold in the model year that's coming to a close would be a priority... but alas the evidence suggests otherwise.
I didn't program the key card; my truck came with the card. Supposedly it has something to do with how the phone as a key feature is setup/configured... I'm still hoping one day they'll delver that feature (that lots of us paid for).
Earlier this week I came out of a Walmart and it wouldn’t unlock. Didn’t respond at all (no mirrors, no lights, no running boards). Had to use the mechanical key and then the truck wouldn’t start using the FOB. Used the key card that I keep in my wallet to start. Stopped to get gas not even 1/10...
To me it's worth the less than $100/year to be able to start my black truck while I'm handing my cc to a waiter, or about to leave a job site and the truck is on the other end of the facility, or pulling the boat into the marina and the truck is 1/4 mile away sitting in the sun... Living in the...
My understanding is you'll have to have a subscription in order to setup the digital key, but after that you will not. That said since we don't know what the final version will look like who knows...
I had to renew my subscription last week (I do use remote start from my phone extensively) and...
The ability to kill a digital key makes sense. I still contend they could have us log in via the uconnect screen and maintain their ability to wipe a key later if the truck is sold or the system is reset to factory defaults, but honestly that really isn't a huge difference in the back end...
That would be a great option! Or make it a key fob and the NFC card that comes with the truck. Or even just the NFC card. Or heck both keys and the NFC card... at this point I'd be happy with any solution ;)
The security authentication thing makes sense. Seems like a simpler mechanism might be to have you log into your Ram account on the uconnect screen, but I’ll admit I don’t know the technical hurdles they might have with how Apple wants it done.
Yep. I’m guessing the NFC module that makes the digital key stuff work always has power (so that it can function as a key before you turn anything on) and since it has power and knows it’s supposed to talk to your phone which should be a key all that’s working and phones will try to be smart and...
Nope. On the screen in my truck it wouldn't get past wanting me to touch the button in the phone app to add a key and I'm still missing that button in the phone app.
I may mess with it again if I can manage to get the phone to recognize it again, was in a hurry when it popped up on me the other...
My 3 month trial for the phone app was expiring the other day so I called in to extend it another 12 months (I use the heck out of remote start on my phone). While I had the guy on the phone I asked about the phone as a key and got told they ran into significant issues when they did the test...
