I am also curious. I need to replace or rebuild mine because at 112k miles, my struts feel shot. No issues with leaks, just awful ride from the front. I found these and was interested in knowing how they were as well.
OCD, your write up has been excellent. If I could play devil's advocate, what do you think would actually prevent the cheapo Bilstein option from working? Is is just a matter of the dimensions/machined groove being different, or would there not be enough room for you to assemble the bag assembly...
I have had this happen to me once, maybe twice on my 2021 Limited with 107k miles. Always went away when I turned the truck off and got back into it later.
I've tried all of them and swapped back & forth a ton. My preferences differ based on how nit picky I'm feeling about ride quality, tire pressures, etc. With worn shocks and lower tire pressures (32-34 cold), I liked the tightest position. Crazy good body control but definitely stiffens the ride...
Your feedback and experience sharing through all this is greatly appreciated. Once I do the swap I will post here and share my experience/results. Thanks!!
Thanks! Only question I have, or what I'm worried about, is potentially having to charge the system & whatever costs/dealer headaches that may entail. My air ride seems to be working just fine right now.
The standard step I'm seeing is to take the suspension down to entry/exit to keep the most...
@E. Hands, any more feedback on the swap? Any modifications necessary like it seems was required (shims) on the 4th gens? I'm looking at swapping 5100's on my front shocks since I've got 5100s on my rears already. Part number I'm looking at is 24-300872. Replacing the rears really helped the...
Sorry if I was unclear, I only replaced the rear shocks with the 24-233354. Haven't dug into the front yet, although I'd like to I'm a fair bit intimidated to attempt. Two young kiddos and no easy backup vehicle if I'm down for a few days to get the system charged by the dealer.
Well, update - went with Bilstein 5100’s and I am very happy, however this made it all the more apparent that the front struts within the airbag assembly are probably worn and need replaced also. Rear handles bumps better than the front now, just intimidated to disassemble the front to replace...
Thanks @CogitoErgoLevo and @CHeYeNNe71, I might go ahead and upgrade the rear shocks and see what happens. At 100k miles I wouldn't be surprised if these are shot and I just don't realize it. Heard of lots failing much earlier.
I have a 21' Limited with the factory 22's and did this also, but I have the 7793 (the 1" bar). I absolutely LOVE the handling on the tightest setting but I found after a while it made the ride way harsher, even after bumping tire pressures down to compensate for this. At 100k miles I was...
I bought my 2021 Limited back in November and just now pulled the trigger on the 7793 since I still had the factory bar on. Just got to say, it makes a huge different especially at the stiffest setting. Paid $379 + tax through American Trucks and don't regret it a bit. Not sure if the 7709 would...
I don't have any kinetic ropes/soft shackles right now (although I have the Rhino USA ones saved to buy on Amazon later).
The Rhino USA recovery straps, tree straps, and snatch block have all been very good to me when I had them in the past. Only gave them to a buddy when I was without a truck...
