They also do contract testing for the auto manufacturers, which is what I think this may be, but I had the same thought as you!

It will be interesting to see, over time, how this works out. Ford will have the 10 speed, GM likely the nine speed Allison, and Ram the ZF 8 speed. ZF has stated publicly that 8 speeds are the best compromise of weight, performance, and economy (my generalizations). Will be interesting to...

It's frustrating that there are so few leads on the new HD - I find myself looking at many different sites and trying to fit the puzzle pieces together...guys like us want 1000 lb.ft of torque, the ZF trans has 100 lb.ft. capacity, that sort of thing...

It could be that ZF may be doing that intentionally in order to have an alternate market in case RAM goes with Aisin. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

My take is this - they are claiming 1. weight savings (at 300 lbs this weighs less than the Aisin), 2. greater fuel efficiency, 3. better driveability/operator satisfaction, 4. lower overall less CO2 emissions, and 5. increased capability to 1000 lb.ft. torque. Other than these, there is no...

If they're redesigning the transmission, don't you think that one of the design goals would be to be able to handle the torque of the Cummins? Just food for thought...
