Chrysler is recalling more than 450,000 vehicles with improperly designed trailer tow modules whose trailer lights may not work and that have trailer brakes that could fail, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration says.

The vehicles involved are the 2024-2026 Jeep Wagoneer S, 2025-2026 Ram 1500 Pickup, Ram 2500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Pickup, Ram 3500 Cab Chassis, Ram 4500 Cab Chassis, Ram 5500 Cab Chassis and 2026 Jeep Cherokee.

The NHTSA says dealers will replace the trailer tow module for free, and owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 24.

In addition, the federal agency says Chrysler is calling back certain Mopar tow trailer modules that also have trailer tow modules with trailer lights that may not light up and trailer brakes that may fail.

Hmm.. I wonder if this affects the trailer tow module I bought and retrofitted to my 2022 last year and had the dealer activate.

And just for clarity, your truck will not have the trailer tow module if you don't have the integrated trailer brake controller and tow package stuff (Trailer Tow Group II), right?

I get errors with my four pin connector on my little trailer. I'm hoping this fixes it.

If this applies to you, it did for me. Call your dealer.
You have to set an appointment for them to order the part. ( this ought to be fun, hehe )
I called today and have an appointment for March 10, IF the part comes in!!!!
The dealers just got the recall notice today. Those affected will start getting notices in March.

Is this for the trailer brake module?

Yup that’s gonna be fun. Check your mopar account.

From mopar:

Safety Defect/Non Compliance Description and Safety Risk

The trailer turn signal will not flash when the vehicle turn signal lever is actuated and the trailer stop lamps will not be activated upon application of the vehicle service brakes. In addition, if equipped, the trailer brakes will not function. Trailer lighting that is not illuminated may result in an approaching vehicle being unaware of the change of direction or speed of the vehicle and trailer which may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. The loss of trailer brakes can also cause a vehicle crash without a prior warning.

Repair Description

FCA US LLC will conduct a voluntary safety recall to replace the trailer tow module.

Recall Status

Incomplete but repair parts are available
Recommended Action

I called my dealer when they opened this morning and have an appointment for March 2. This is for FCA Recall #03D (NHTSA Recall #26V-059) Trailer Tow Module. My 2026 1500 Bighorn does not have Trailer Tow Group II (no integrated brake controller or steering knob) so I wasn't sure if it would be affected. But now I know that it is. My Trailer Tow Module is p/n 68602158AF.

If your 2025/26 Ram 1500 was built Sep 27, 2023 - Nov 08, 2025, then you’re likely impacted. If you’re not sure, look at the sticker on your driver’s side doorjam. There is a “DATE OF MFG (BUILT)” that will give something like "10-24” which means October 2024. On the right side of the sticker, lower down, is another piece of data called “MDH”. (month date hour) it might show something like “103115” which breaks down to 10=October 31=date. 15=hour (24 hour clock). So you can know for sure if your truck was built during the recall window.

Update: You can verify whether your p/n’s are included in the recall. Find your controller behind your rear seats, about the middle of the truck, just on the passenger side of the middle. The controller is a black box just above floor level. You can just see the part number without having to take the seat out.
I verified my controller is part of the recall. After looking it up, I think the replacement p/n is 68602159AH.

I called the dealer today and he wouldn’t even make an appointment. He said he’s had at least 30 calls in the last couple of days, and there are no parts. He doesn’t really expect parts to be available (and that means available to be special ordered) until the recall notices are officially mailed. At half a million trucks impacted (across all platforms - 312k just in 1500s), I hope they have a lot of parts in the pipeline. This is likely going to be a CF.

I have the recall notice in my Ram App today. I'm going to call the stealership tomorrow but I fully expect to be brushed off.

Interesting. I only have the Purge Valve campaign in my app. The VINs for the trailer controller recall were supposed to be loaded in the system yesterday, so I thought my app would update. Honestly, I’m not surprised.

And I wonder if they fix it for free under the recall or tell you to pound sand since you installed it yourself?

Went to several dealers to buy a new Ram and they won't let them leave the lot. One wanted me to do all the paper work and buy the truck but you can't leave with it till the part comes in. What dealer BS, oh it will be in next week, ya right. Of course they didn't tell me this till I went ready to do the deal.

I went to 3 dealers to make an appointment to get my repaired. Basically they all said, we are currently able to get 1 unit a week and you can get in line behind all the vehicles on our lot…. So we’ll make you an appointment for 6 months from now.

My dealer told me the same with 1 part order per week. Supposedly I’m number 21 in line. Luckly I have nothing to tow in the near future.

That's terrible customer service. They should be standing behind the vehicles already sold.
Here is another potential wrinkle: More than one person on a Facebook group I follow have stated that their dealer can get the module, what they are waiting on is the seat bolts. So I assume the seat bolts are considered single use. Has anyone else heard that? I removed my rear seats to install covers and reused the bolts with fresh loctite. I wonder if they are "stretch to torque" or if its just the factory applied threadlocker that is the issue.
