HOW TO: Add Digital Rearview Mirror

I just read through all 24 pages and it still isn't clear. I have a 2020. If I buy a *NEW* BCM and get it programmed at the dealer, and then I do the rest of this mod (Mirror, CHMSL, FAKRA) will l be able to retain my auto dimming side mirrors?

I can't tell if there are just two ways to do it (USED BCM and jimmy07s harness or a new BCM) and they both produce the same result, or if the NEW BCM produce a different result (aka keeping the auto dimming function)

Thanks!
It's pretty simple and straightforward as it's written. You need either another BCM and Jimmy07's harness or a 2033+ BCM to replace yours. It must be a 2023+. You can't just buy a new BCM for a 2020. Or you can send your current BCM to Jimmy07, and he will upgrade it. A dealer probably won't do that for you.

I swear I'm not trying to be a pain, but that still doesn't answer my question. Does doing either of what you just suggested let me keep my auto dimming mirrors? Or is that just not possible on a 2020?

Yes. And it was already answered above by MannyN. But to be clear, only by using a 2023+ BCM will you be able to keep auto dimming.

Ya sorry I just saw MannyNs reply now. Ok thanks gents. And a 2022 BCM wont work to keep auto dimming? 2023+ BCMs are all on backorder but there is a sale on a 2022 BCM for like 50% off on the MOPAR site right now...

TBH, I think a 2021+ should work. I think what I was getting confused was you need a 2023 Plus for the digital cluster gauge.

Here's a question I'm sure someone can answer, read everything and couldn't find the answer. I bought the (68551077AB) light for my 2022 limited, I'm curious if anybody knows what the video format is? My problem with the truck is that the rearview mirror is right in my line of sight, at 4 way stops if I forget to duck or look around mirror a full size vehicle can easily be hidden behind the mirror so I want to get rid of it or modify it or something ( as a side, I went to dealership and asked if the rear view mirror mount was available, they said its part of the windshield and commented "the mirror is blocking your view, a few people asked for mount to try and move it" so I'm not alone). My thought is to mount one of those rectangular monitors just above entertainment screen and run the video feed to that. Thank you

It's proprietary. You won't find a good solution.

You can do that. You’ll get a message in the cluster on each startup that says rear view mirror unavailable, but it goes away after a few seconds, and everything works as it should.
I have a 2023 that I added digital mirror. Its currently displaying that message on start up. Thinking about trading it in. If I put original mirror back in will that message stop popping up?

Hello,
I have a 19 RAM and brake light 68551077AB.
I purchased the mirror 68448641AB.
I'm still waiting for the 2023 BCM.
Can I test the mirror before that, or is that only possible once I have the new BCM?

From what I've read, you don't need an adapter cable when switching to the 2023 BCM.

I just want to test whether the mirror and brake light are working and there are no defects.

Why the double post? Anyway, you can't test the mirror without the correct BCM or that special adapter.

Oh, sorry. The app froze and I had to refresh it.
The second post only appeared after several minutes.

Okay, thanks for the information.

I need the cable from @Jimmy07 or the other one like eBay?

If this has been discussed before I apologize. I have a 2025 Ram 2500 Rebel. I have 360 Cameras but I dont have a digital rear view mirror. Could anyone set me up with a list of things I would need to install a digital rear view mirror
Im hoping to integrate it into my current factory system
But my most important question/questions are…
•Can I use my factory camera/cameras for my Rear view mirror display? Or would I have to buy a new Camera set up and rewire it to the screen and rear view mirror?
•Will the original video source still show up on my 14.5 U connect? Which I do want to keep because of the factory 360 set up.

I'm trying to do this install in my 2023 Ram 1500. I have a few questions I’m hoping someone with experience can help clarify.

I want to mirror tap the new mirror to power two accessories:
  • A dash cam that runs on 5V (with a step-down converter)
  • A radar detector that runs on 12V
I’m assuming the mirror circuit is already 12V from the truck, but I’m concerned about overall power draw--
  • Will tapping the mirror for these two devices risk blowing a fuse or overloading the circuit?
  • Could adding these accessories affect or degrade the quality of the digital rearview camera feed in any way?
-------
Second, I also want to make sure I understand what will and won’t be impacted when I swap to the digital mirror. My truck currently has: Auto-dimming side/rearview mirrors, Surround View, ACC, FCW, Auto high beams, & rain-sensing wipers
  • After installing the new mirror, which of those will require reconfiguration? I’m not totally clear on what remains versus what might need to be re-enabled/adjusted using something like AlfaOBD.
-------
Last question: Part number 68519222AA (w/ 2-channel video) is listed on Mopar’s site as being for 2022 Rams only. Can I safely use that mirror in a 2023, or is there an actual compatibility difference I need to worry about?

Appreciate any insight! Thanks.

From Jimmy07:

For the 2500/3500 Rams, the install is the same, and 2019-2020 need to use any 2021+ bcm (as long as it’s not from a 4th gen 1500 classic).

Same mirrors as in the list for the 1500’s. The CHMSL with rear view mirror camera part numbers are as follows:
  • 68465996AA- for trucks with no surround view cameras, and no cargo camera
  • 68465999AA- for trucks with no surround view cameras, but with a cargo camera
  • 68465998AA- for trucks equipped with surround view cameras
Those CHMSL part numbers are specifically for the digital mirror part numbers posted in this thread. They cannot be used with 2023+ 2500/3500 digital mirror part numbers (installing 2023+ drvm 3.0 parts is more involved and not suited for the thread on this forum).

These will all work through 2024 HD Rams, but when used in 2023-2024 HD Rams, there will be a message in the cluster on each startup that says rear view mirror unavailable, but everything works fine, and the message goes away after a few seconds.
Hi jimmy, I have install the mirror and need the bcm wiring harness. How can I get one?

Hi jimmy, I have the 2019 ram 1500 5th gen and need that bcm cable for the digital rear view mirror

is Jimmy the only person that can make this wire or can I buy some where else? I haven't been able to find it
Idk if im allowed to post links here but check ebay for this "19-20 RAM OEM DIGITAL REAR VIEW MIRROR CAMERA DISPLAY INTEGRATION MODULE +CABLE". I believe this lets you skip out on needing to have that "extra" bcm.

You can post links. This was also posted higher up. I wish they offered just the module.
