Digital Key setup 2025 Laramie

I was messing around with Uconnect and was wondering if everyone has the Uconnect page where you begin setting up the SPAAK? I do, but then it tells me to go to the app and press the SPAAK button, which isn't on the app. Assuming this is where everyone is getting stuck?

Bingo!

Yep, noticed it was no longer greyed out in my head unit settings, but when I check the app still no digital key tile.

Not me. It was a breeze and works great. Gone to the gym a few times without the fob. Only issue was it wasn’t recognizing the phone as a key from my pocket so had to tap the nfc receiver to start the truck.

If you have any older phone, it may not support the contactless. e.g., my Apple Watch 5 will only support by contacting the handle and sensor to start. Not sure if this is the latest/greatest, but it's a start:

I only have a series 5 for the watch, but haven’t tried that yet. iPhone 16 pro for the phone. The not working from pocket is a very intermittent issue. Most of the time it works great.

My 3 month trial for the phone app was expiring the other day so I called in to extend it another 12 months (I use the heck out of remote start on my phone). While I had the guy on the phone I asked about the phone as a key and got told they ran into significant issues when they did the test rollout to 100 customers so they pulled it back from even the test group. Got a discount on my 12 month phone app subscription and was told my truck would update at some point in the near future, but I shouldn't really notice any difference.

Yesterday morning when I started it up my phone connected and wanted to add a car key to my Apple Wallet. I got super excited about it, but couldn't figure out any way to generate the 8 digit pairing code... I'm guessing that this was the update I was told to expect and they're still not releasing this function, but it sure seems to be right there ready to go if they'd just let us have it.

Post #233 has a link to the video on completing this once it’s on your phone. No luck?

Nope. On the screen in my truck it wouldn't get past wanting me to touch the button in the phone app to add a key and I'm still missing that button in the phone app.
I may mess with it again if I can manage to get the phone to recognize it again, was in a hurry when it popped up on me the other morning.

I've been getting that same notice. As soon as my Carplay connects, the Wallet message disappears, so I suspect others may be getting it but not seeing it. You really have to be watching your phone screen or it will flash up and then disappear without you ever seeing it.

I think it's a bit of a red herring for us. Until Mopar turns on the function in the RAM app, I think there is simply no way to get the digital key into the Apple Wallet. I think it's the app, talking to Mopar on the back end, that will generate that 8 digit key code and put it in my Apple Wallet for me.

So, we continue to wait... :(

Oh, and after seeing that message and having it immediately disappear on me, I basically disabled CarPlay. Then, once I put the phone in the wireless charger/NFC reader spot, then it displayed and stayed displayed so I could look at it and mess with it.

I just want you all to know that I have been leaving my fob at home and going to the gym with just my phone and it’s been working great. Fingers crossed 🤞 hopefully you all get to enjoy this level of freedom soon.

Yep. I’m guessing the NFC module that makes the digital key stuff work always has power (so that it can function as a key before you turn anything on) and since it has power and knows it’s supposed to talk to your phone which should be a key all that’s working and phones will try to be smart and start the pairing process… and then the uconnect system comes on line and tells the NFC module to quit “talking” to your phone.

In the end until Ram gives us a way to generate the pairing code it looks like most of us are SOL. The really frustrating part is I can’t come up with a reason they need to involve the Ram App at all. The uconnect screen should be able to display the pairing code just like connecting Bluetooth.

Brave! Very brave...

I suspect it’s a security thing.

You don’t want just anybody to be able to plop their phone into your charging cradle and turn it into a key to your truck when you’re not looking.

You have to login to the Ram app, and then it probably does something on the back end, talking to a Mopar server, to confirm that you are the owner (or authorized user) of the truck you’re making a key for.

Those kinds of issues are also probably what has screwed the development team and why we don’t have this feature yet.

I know this is different but, kind of the same. I know of two separate instances in South Korea of someone using their key fob to open and start a vehicle that was identical to theirs but wasn't theirs. In the second case, the guy was arrested for attempted theft when it was accidental. The first one was accidental also and they realized it wasn't their car because it was cleaner inside so they quickly got out. Car manufacturers should do better.

The security authentication thing makes sense. Seems like a simpler mechanism might be to have you log into your Ram account on the uconnect screen, but I’ll admit I don’t know the technical hurdles they might have with how Apple wants it done.
