Heavy Condensation/Mold Growing

In January, I noticed heavy condensation on the inside of my windshield after my truck (2020 Ram Rebel) sat through a couple days of rain. The condensation was so heavy, water was dripping down the windshield into the dashboard.

I immediately drove it to my dealer (JStar, Anaheim Hills, CA) with the condensation on the windshield. They verified it and took photographs. After having my vehicle for 3 weeks, they were unable to replicate the issue and told me to come pick up the truck with no solution. They told me to bring it back if it continues.

Today, after getting heavy rain yesterday, I get into my truck and same thing… heavy condensation on my windshield. I start looking around and I notice it is wet on the rear driver side floorboard. I also notice mold growing below the rear passenger seat.

Anyone know where the water could be coming from to soak the rear driver side floorboard so I can help the dealership figure it out since they are clueless and incompetent.

There are three sources of this potential leak. Rear window, CHMSL, or shark fin. Rear window being the primary suspect, given the year of your truck and the location of the water. If your headliner isn't wet, then I'd be looking real hard at that back window. The frame is likely cracked and leaking - there's a class-action lawsuit about it right now.

The dealership is playing dumb, these trucks have more leaks than the Titanic. They just don't want the hassle.

If there is mold, demand that the carpet and padding be replaced.

I found the leak on my truck by looking very closely at the glass. When the water seeps in from outside it brings dirt with it, and when the water dries, a small dirt trail is left behind.

Look very closely at all of your windows. Also, if you have a sunroof, that may also be the source of water. When the drain tubes get clogged, they can't funnel the water away, and it backs up and flows into the cab.

I had the sunroof problem on my last truck (Ford) and swore I'd never have one again. I went out of my way to find a Ram with no sunroof, but lucky me, they still found a way to get water in my truck. The first time they worked on mine they changed the third brake light, gave it back, and told me it was fixed. It was not. It's been in the shop over a month now as they play the game with Chrysler trying to get everything approved.

Any water leak in the truck can puddle and cause the windshield to condensate. There are many many people with back window frames leaking. If it is starting to mold, insist they replace any soft parts that were wet. I cad a 2001 Cadillac Eldorado that had a trunk leak that caused mold. GM replaced everything behind the front seats. Back seats, carpet, side panels, etc.

Not the most competent dealer....i go there because they are closest, but my experiences there have been very hit and miss.

That mold looks like something got spilled above and ran down the seat-belt?

I have the same problem 2021 1500 limited 4x4. Taking it in on the 1/24/2024. The rear seats are wet also. The headliner was not wet nor did I see or feel any moisture on back of cab liner.

Spray Lysol on everything. Prevents mold and mildew. I hit everything when it gets damp back there. Never a mold or mildew issue. Also add some damp rid. This will help reduce mpisture until you repair it.
