Folding Mirrors Hitting Windows

I noticed that when I fold my power mirrors in, they both make pretty good contact with the windows. Is there a limit adjustment to these or is this the design? Seems pretty odd they would contact the window every time.

Are you sure they are hitting the windows? They shouldn't hit them, but get really, really close. Almost looks like they hit. And no, there isn't an adjustment.

I've have not had that issue, they do get close. Thier are plenty of threads on hear with people reporting them hitting the glass though, I don't think their is any adjustment.

Lots of people have said this, and as I recall, most were just hearing the "thunk" when it hits the internal stops. After you fold your mirrors in, take a piece of paper and slide it between the mirror and the glass. If it doesn't encounter any resistance, then it's not touching the glass.
Mine makes a huge thunk, and I've confirmed that it's not hitting the glass.

Yup mine hits the window as well (a slight thunk sound). I extend them when rolling down the window on my big horn. The edge of the mirror is like a hard rounded plastic, It doesn't do any damage. I assumed all Rams mirrors made contact with the window and in my opinion it protects the mirror against the mirror stop.

They are not really close, they hit the windows.

Stupid design but it doesn't seem to hurt anything.

Maybe they missed this when they were spending time on the design of the rear window and 3rd brake light seals?

Another test:
1) Roll windows down
2) Fold mirrors in
3) Roll windows up

If there is window interference with the mirror when going up then the mirror swings in enough to contact the glass.

Either way, I agree and think the design is pretty poor - I had a Grand Cherokee (still stellantis) and the mirrors folded in nicely and still had about 1/4 inch of clearance to the glass.

Are you sure they hit the glass? Have you tested it as mentioned above, using a piece of paper to side between the mirror and the glass? Just trying to confirm.

They're not hitting the glass, they're hitting the stop and making noise that sounds like they're hitting the glass. This has been discussed to death in many threads since 5th gens first came out.

Don’t worry, they will probably break soon and then you won’t have to worry about them hitting the glass. They are without a doubt the $hittiest power folding mirrors that I have seen on any vehicle ever. I had to have both of mine replaced on my 2019. For that reason, I never use them on my new truck.

None of the people I know, or I , have ever had any problems. I only fold in at car washes, but one friend folds his every time he parks.

I’m glad to hear it. My experience has been different than yours. It’s possible that there have been improvements since 2019, but I doubt it. Therefore, I’ll stick with not using them.

Like I said, both of mine broke on my previous truck and the mirrors became loose and flopped around. It’s not just that the power fold stopped working, they physically broke and were flopping around.

There are plenty of posts here and elsewhere with folks complaining how cheaply made they are.. plastic gears, etc.

For me, the first sign that they are not very well made is that the motor continues to run for 1 - 2 seconds after the mirror has stopped moving. That cannot be good for the plastic gear.

2019 Ram, in service Nov 2018, 37,000 miles. Went through the "is it touching the glass" - it was not. I have been folding the mirrors since day one (close to 100% of the time) via the controls and avoid manually moving them, remove any snow thoroughly. If weather conditions are rain/snow freezing mix I would try to leave the mirrors out to avoid any possible sticking points and strain on the mirror mechanisms.
I have had no issues.
