Hey everyone! New to the group, glad to be here and looking for some advise please. I am thinking about custom ordering (perhaps from MD or Koons) a 2023 Ram 1500 Limited Ecodiesel 4x4 with the 3.92 rear end. I tow a boat in the vicinity of 5200 lbs and would like to comfortably tow up to around 6500 lbs. I know payload is the limiting factor with these trucks, especially high up in the trim levels. Is there anyway to find out the payload/tow capacity of a custom order (without a VIN) or to know the weight of options added to the truck? I have some window stickers that I have found online and checked on Ram's website that are close, but nothing exact. Also not sure if anything has changed for 2023.

FWIW, ideally, the build would also include the Limited Level 1, Night Edition package, E-locker, 33 gallon tank and Trailer Tow group.

Hoping for a payload of about 1,400 lbs. and max tow of around 9,600 lbs.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I hate to be the negative guy...but that truck loaded that heavily with options is highly unlikely to have a 1400lb payload. Maybe if you are able to deselect the panoramic sunroof you might get a little closer. I recall seeing very similar builds with Payloads of just over a thousand pounds.

My best advice would be to ask this forum for anyone that has a very similarly built, ecodiesel-specific, Limited, 4x4 what their payloads are and take a then educated guess from there.

Yeah, I know I'm probably pushing it for 1,400 lbs. I'm purposely leaving off the pano-roof, MFT, and Ram boxes because I know those take quite a hit to the payload. Thanks for the input!

Isn’t the EcoDiesel unavailable for order now? They’re discontinuing it, and I’ve heard several reports of it being gone as an option already.

I have spoken with several dealerships and they say it’s available to order for 2023 (for now). Sounds like they announced production will stop in January 2023 sometime, but no idea when they’ll stop orders.

Yeah I plugged it into the NADA website for 2023 and it does come up as an option. Looks like the diesel and Hemi w/ Etorque are the only options.

Look at my sig. My payload is 1317# before accessories. Towing is just under 10K.

I ordered mine (2023 Limited Longhorn 4x4 with EcoDiesel) on Tuesday and it was accepted.

Thanks, that certainly helps! In comparison to yours, I would basically be switching the Off-Road Group with the Night Edition package, adding the 33 gallon tank and Tow group and maybe the E-locker. I would think the Off-road group would affect the payload more then some others.

How does it pull the Lance? That's a beautiful TT btw.

Interesting. Here’s a post where someone said they missed the cutoff.

I think the skid plates are the heaviest part of ORG. You'd surely be closer to 1400# than me but I'm not sure if you'd be there or not. If you get the 3.92 rear ratio you will be good on towing capacity.

It tows the Lance very easily. I haven't gotten the new WDH set up exactly right yet but I have had no trouble pulling it up and down the NC mountains. We love the camper. Nice to have "2 rooms" in a fairly small package. We were lucky to get it when we did. Got a really good deal and now prices have gone crazy.

oh man. Guess I'll be calling Mark Dodge back tomorrow and confirming with them. Got a quote last week saying they could do it. Thanks for the thread link.
That is interesting. I have a scan of what was submitted, showing EXH 3.0 V6 Turbo Diesel Engine Gen 3. I wonder if the availability is based on dealer allocation...

Based on your experience towing the Lance, do you think the 33-gallon tank would be worth it or save the weight for more payload?

After re-reading, not sure if I know which dealer you meant by MD. I ordered mine from McLarty Daniel in Bentonville, AR.

I have not towed far enough to need the larger tank but I love having it in general. 900+ mile range... I think almost everyone on the site has been glad they got the 33 gallon tank.

The tank itself doesn't weigh that much more than a smaller one so you could always out less fuel in it since the payload hit includes a full tank. You'd get 7# back for every gallon you leave out. You'd have to decide if 70# is worth filling to 23 gallons.
