So I get back from TN., ( did not take my truck), and as we pull up in the driveway it smells like freaking death! We live by the woods, so im thinking someone probably lost a Deer again. I did walk around and look, never saw anything. Next day im out in my tuck and I realize its coming FROM my truck!! I check interior, air filter, cabin filter, engine compartment, chassis, found nothing! Im at a loss, my truck stinks so bad you cant stand it. Seems to be worse if the windows are down. My guess is a dead mouse somewhere.......

Rodents are known to crawl under the hood and chew on the mat that surrounds the battery. I would look under the hood in that area and see if they have died or drops some feces there.

I had a mouse make a nest and have babies in the battery insulation. If the odor is as strong as you describe then it might be a bigger rodent than a mouse somewhere in your engine compartment OR Dirty Mike and the Boys had an orgy in your truck while you were gone 🤣.

Also check in between the bed and the cab of the truck. You can crawl under the truck and look up in that area.

Thanks fella's, I did do all the above, I actually just did a recheck, cant find anything...No droppings, hair, or ground up meat anywhere lol, I might have to literally "ride it out" and hopefully it will dissipate on its own.

We used to put shrimp in the hub caps, but that went away a long time ago.

Might be something climbed up on top of the spare tire or fuel tank and got stuck.

If it is smelling that strong, do you see any flies or ant activities?

Are you sure no one spilled milk into a seat or floor? Many moons ago we didn't realize milk had leaked until several days later when the stink started.

On top of the gas tank or transmission?

Check under the engine cover(top of intake), another spot to check is pull off the insulation/sound deadening on the bottom side of the hood

That's the worst. I never had kids, but riding in my sister's car when her kids were toddlers was excruciating.

Get an ozone generator on Amazon and run it in there for ten to 15 minutes with the truck running, doors shut, and the HVAC on recirculate. It'll get the smell out. Just don't run it too long or your truck would then smell like ozone. I once had a pound of ground beef slide under the seat on the way home from the grocery store in my old F150. It was Labor Day weekend in Las Vegas with temps over 100 and I didn't find out about it until three days later, after it had time to make the interior of my truck smell like absolute death. Ten minutes with the ozone generator made the smell completely go away.

Ozone is amazing for killing odors. And it is also amazing at wrecking lungs. Be sure people and animals are kept away while concentrating ozone in an enclosed space.

I did that on a work van I was given years ago. I did 3, 30 minute rounds and the old tech’s funk was still there. I did an overnight run for 9 hours to knock out the smell. It was probably overkill, but that van smelled like dirty b-hole.
