Running board suggestions needed

I just bought my first Dodge Ram this weekend and am needing suggestions on some running boards that would look good on her. Pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Agree 100%. Also will never rust or corrode. Solid as a rock too.

Another vote for the Black Mopar ones - generally the factory options can be bested by 3rd parties, but I think for running boards (not off road type) they hit mark.

For those considering running boards here are some "Factors" for consideration.

Factors for running boards:
1. material - steel, SS, alu, plastic
2. shape - flat, round, oval, trapezoid, other (more off road)
3. width - 3, 4, 5, 6 inch
4. color - black, polished, painted
5. connections to vehicle - brackets (no covers / covers-beefier look)
6. connection to vehicle - gap from vehicle, height from ground
7. ends - capped (plastic) or welded ends
8. ends - straight or "bent"
9. power retractable
10. company - USA, dealer network, contacts (email, phone), warranty, service, reliability
11. lease vs purchase, short vs long term ownership
12. price -

Maybe it will help in the decision process for those choosing other than Mopar.

Things were so much easier 2001 with my Dodge Ram 1500.

I bought the mopar hard plastic for my rebel, they are not very wide, getting in is easier than getting out, I find the best way to get out is to also hang on to the handle by the windshield on the way out, it’s better than sliding out off your seat and putting your foot to the ground, if you use your running boards on the way out it puts less pressure to the edge of your seat, and your seat will last for years. The Rebel is taller than my previous Outdoorsman.

I went with the go rhino dominator dss running boards and then got them linex ed. I love the look and durability. The surface is not super wide but works great for my kids to climb in. The linex keeps them looking great and keeps you from slipping on them in winter

Really cool to actually see these on a truck I was looking at these or the d6. Do they offer enough of a step or do you wish they had a little more to step on? What is the actual width of the step?

I like my factory ones, but if you go aftermarket, try to get them with bedliner finish or get them bedlined afterwards. The cheaper ones will start cracking and chipping right away, and then rusting.

I got my factory ones from a member here for cheap, but if I was to buy a set, I would go with the Rhino line of steps, seems to be good quality, great looks and available in bedliner finish.

It depends on what your getting them for. For me the biggest challenge was having my kids crawl into the truck. My wife was also pregnant and needed a little boost from time to time. Other than that I don't really use them. So these are perfect because they really don't stick out far. The only reason I would go with the wider ones is because they actually do a great job of keeping dirt and debris from hitting the paint. I'm too deep into these to make a change now though so I'll just deal with it. I do absolutely love how they look though. if I went with wider ones I would probably go with a different style as the tubular luck can be a bit much when they stick out in my opinion.

I took a photo with me stepping on it. There's enough room to get my big feet on them. so they're very useful for getting in the truck if you need them.The challenge is getting out and using them because they don't stick out far enough to really catch the lip.

Nice looking truck! I would bet based on how dialed in your truck is that you did a bunch of research on the steps/rail sliders you got. Similar to what you said above, I need a little assist for my kids and wife to be able to crawl up into the truck. Generally I'm not a fan of the side steps. I think they're ugly and take away from the aesthetics of the lift. I don't like how they stick out either. I like the idea of the electric ones that extend but those are too heavy, I do a lot of towing and need my payload for people and gear not steps.

Anyway, yours look really nice. They're sleek. They don't stick out. Were there others besides the Go Rhino DSS you chose that you liked?

I think my preference would be to find some aluminum ones for weight considerations but yours is the nicest looking setup I've seen. Just curious what else you considered. I'll also have mine shot with Line-X. Love the Line-X in the bed of the truck.

I have the non-offroad ones from Mopar/Ram and I wish I would have gotten the offroad ones now, had I known they offered a choice at the time. I prefer the look of the offroad ones, but I do like the ones I have as a 2nd choice.

Now that I have experience with both, the fixed running board seems really impractical. Too high, too narrow to really get a good foothold, and too bulky. I understand powered running boards aren't for everyone, mainly because of cost. However, if you can afford it, I'd say got with a powered one. Personally, I also like the looks of it much better now.

100% agree...I love my powered running boards...FAR more practical in day to day use and the "hidden" look is appealing to me.
