What to buy: bed rug or rubber bed mat?

Hi all,

I have the factory spray-in liner, but it is scraping up my stuff.

I don’t carry heavy duty stuff like rocks or lumber. Most common things in the truck bed is luggage, inflatable paddle board, and my bike.

What do you guys recommend for my needs: bed rug or bed mat?

Thank you!

I love the rubber bed mat, which I have over my factory spray-in liner. It will protect any delicate stuff you put in your bed while also keeping stuff from moving around. With just my spray-in liner, I had to cover delicate furniture and strap it down. With a rubber mat, you don't have to do either.

If your bed is open to the elements and you are putting stuff in that is dirty or wet, the rubber mat is the best way to go. It's easy to spray down to clean and doesn't hold moisture either.

I am partial to the Dee Zee Brand of rubber mats, there are several brands to choose from, all designed to fit your bed perfectly. Cost anywhere from $80 - $120 or so.

This is mine: https://www.deezee.com/product/truck-bed-mats/

You can probably shop around and get it cheaper or try another brand.

Personally, I love my bed rug! I can get him there on my knees and crawl around when I need to load stuff up in there. I’m not one to carry rocks and things like that so I didn’t need the bedliner. That’s just my personal opinion of what I bought

I went with the Dee Zee rubber mat to protect from dents and grease/oil. I would ruin a bed rug pretty quick

I have a hard top and I’m in Colorado and a BedRug works well for my situation. If I was in Florida and didn’t have a cover it would be a whole different story. I think it depends on what you want it for.

I have a Bedrug. Perfect for my needs. I don't use the truck to haul but rather transport kids bikes, hockey bags, and things like that. Very easy to crawl around on and easy to vacuum out any dirt.

Just as an FYI...you will see Bedrug and then you will see HuskyLiner Fiberliner which appears to be the same product. And they are! Bedrug and Huskyliner are owned by the same company. The Huskyliner Fiberliner can be found only on Amazon. Sometimes you can get a better price on the Fiberliner on Amazon than you can on a Bedrug.

Excellent point. I refer to "Bedrug" in the same way people refer to tissues as "Kleenex". I actually ordered a DeWalt version of the bedrug through Amazon and paid $105. I don't see that one available anymore but when comparing to my father-in-law's Bedrug they appear to be essentially the same. The low price is actually the reason I went with the DeWalt one as opposed to a similarly priced $100 rubber mat and I'm very glad I did.

I did the same thing back in October 2020 when I picked up a Huskyliner version for $105 on eBay...am waiting for that deal to roll around again and will jump on it for my 2021. I left it in my 2020 when I traded it as the dealer insisted it added trade value...that or he wanted to grab it for his truck. Either way, they're great for my old knees when I'm in the back of the truck and will be getting another in the next couple of months.

I got the rug for mine. It has really good padding underneath so my pups are comfortable. I've hauled wood, sand and made dump runs with the rug installed and it cleans very easy

How did you get the sand out? Just wash it out. I know I’ve washed some things out of my bed rug and it comes out relatively easily, but I haven’t tackled sand yet

I've had a mix of spray-in liners and the MOPAR bed mat in various trucks. Currently I have a spray-in liner with my old bed mat over the top. I like that things don't slide around on the mat, which would be similar to a bed rug. However, I got boating and camping a lot. Gas cans, oil, grease, and other things tend to leak here and there. That's my reason for not having a rug.

However, if I were loading sand/gravel/etc into a bed with the rug, I would just lay a good tarp in the bed and then dump away.

I have both...a Bedrug (Impact model), with a Mopar bed mat on top.
Bedrug really transformed the bed, and the mat keeps stuff in place.
Have had a rolling cart laid upside down in the bed for weeks and that thing dont move.
Have cleaned the bedrug twice after getting it dirty, and it cleans up easily and dries up fast.

I have a BedRug, this is my second truck with a BedRug. I highly recommend it. They have a heavier duty version as well but, for me, hauling rock and sand will be infrequent so went with the XLT version of the BedRug. Also, since I have the bed utility group, I went with the mat version which does not go up the front or sides.

I just purchased a new XLT Bedrug (covers the bed, tailgate and tailgate gap) from Bedrug.com last night for $182.70. Not as inexpensive as we got the Huskyliner version last October but decided not to wait.

In the family, we’ve had three Bedrugs and all have outperformed our expectations. This will be the fourth and we expect it to perform as well.

All you need is a pressure washer and a little Dawn dish detergent to get out any gas, oil, sand or dirt.

the Bedrug is flat out awesome. I cannot yet find, see, or even think of a scenario it doesnt handle well...EXCEPT if you are regularly hauling gravel or sand, or spilling oil daily. The bedrug will easily handle those things, it's just that the cleaning aspect would be a bit slower. And it sure as hell is great on my aging knees. I have the full bedrug...Got for just under $400. Would do it again in a heartbeat.
