Have a new 2021 ram 1500 crew cab and was wondering the pros and Cons of adding fender flares? Will the metal underneath get bad eventually with them on? It makes the truck look cool

I had the factory flares on my 2006 Silverado until 2017 when I sold it. There was no side effects of them being on for those 12 years. I removed them to see how the truck would look without them and the only issue was minor paint marring where the plastic touched the body.

I went with the OEM Fender Flares but it does require some Modifications of the clips.

Plan to take off the Factory Flares and install a set of wider Pocket Style Flares, ALA Bushwacker.

Love mine I replaced the factory flares with the bushwhacked pocket flares. I used clear scratch guard under the rubber to keep them from scratching the paint. Install the flare trace edge with masking tape remove flare follow the masking tape with scratch guard reinstall the flare.

I had the factory flares and replaced with the bushwackers with no problems.
How long did it take you to install them? I installed my own on my '18 GMC without much trouble and figured I could manage getting this set on too. Also, are aftermarket mudguards possible with the flares installed? Thanks for the info!

BTW your truck looks great dude.

Basically I had to install each one twice because I used the scratch guard under them it took a day. If installing without the scratch guard maybe 3 to 4 hours. I cannot find any mudguards that are compatible but I’ve found that I really don’t need them the flares are wide. I’m running 20x12 rims and the tires do not stick out past the flares. If your handy you could custom make some. I hope that helps, thanks for the compliment on my truck.

I'm going to be buying some Xpel PPF tape to place under the flares between the rubber gasket and paint (my 2500 had the BW Pocket Flares, so I've seen first hand the damaged caused)

Will 12ft be enough or will I need more? $22 for 12ft and $60 for 100ft

You'll need about 6ft for each of the rear and I think 5ft for the fronts. I bought a 6" wide 12ft long one. And sliced it into 1.5" long pieces and it was just enough.

Do your flares have a small gap between the flare and the metal panel? I have small gaps on the front ones behind the wheel where they wrap under the fender and in the rear in front of the tire. I refit these like 3 times and they are snug as hell and have no play, except for the gaps at the bottom.
