Big Horn vs. Larime

Hi,
My first choice is Larime. Big Horn is second mostly because of pricing, and lack of chips to get options I want on a Larime. I also like the Big Horn rims better than the Larime unless I get the ORG package. Not sure I want the locking rear and all the "heavy" protection items just to get the different rims. I will also be getting 12" screen, Panoramic Roof, MFT and Ram Box.
Not knowing all the advantages between the two, not worried so much about the pricing, is the Larime worth waiting for?

Noticeable differences is Laramie has leather interior, fender flares, a few more features that standard as opposed to options for a bighorn.

Some of these are standard on the Laramie, and some are options that require other packages. But nothing on this list is available on the Big Horn...

For me, I would choose the Laramie because I want Adaptive Cruise Control.

When I went to the dealership to look around and I saw a night edition Big Horn it had the following. Power pedals, power driver's seat, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, power windows, power rear window, tow package, led lighting package, safety package, technology package with HUD, 12 inch navigation screen with uconnect to start my truck from my phone.....power everything....EXCEPT a passenger seat? Really???? Power for everything else but a manual passenger seat??

Not that I carry a lot of passengers, but what the heck is that - would it really kill you to make it a power passenger seat? It's already heated.... Heck, even my 5 year old truck has a power passenger seat....is Ram really saving that much money by not putting a couple of motors?


Also - thank you WVUVIV30 for the breakdown in options, but there is one that I have never seen until now. A Tradesman Night Edition.

1) Reclining rear bench seat

2) 12-way power on both driver/passenger seats

3) passenger seat gets 4-way lumbar support

there are so many 'take offs' you can get the rims you want cheap (and then sell whatever you have, basically a swap at minimum) don't worry about tires/rims, just plan to change them out after you buy

To me the biggest advantage of the standard features are LED reflectors and the 9 speaker system that are standard on Laramie and optional on Bighorn. To me it is all preference, but the headlights are a biggie.

Agree 100%. I added the LED headlight/taillight package on my bighorn when I ordered. The difference is unreal.

IMO, Bighorns can offer the best bang for the buck. It all depends on whether you want all of the bells and whistles. If you want more of the advanced safety options like adaptive cruise and surround view cameras, you'll have to go with the Laramie. But for 2021 Ram did introduce the Level 1 Safety Group for the Bighorns which includes some of the advanced safety options found on the Laramie like lane keep assist, forward collision warning, pedestrian emergency braking, etc.

As for leather, it's a lower-quality leather than what's found in the Limiteds, so if you haven't already taken a look at a Laramie in person, I'd suggest doing so. Some people don't care for the leather in the Laramie, and if you're in the same boat, adding leather to a bighorn is a piece of cake and most dealers offer Katzkin leather which is a reputable brand.

If you want ventilated seats, you'll have to go with a Laramie. If you want heated second-row seats, you'll have to go with the Laramie.

At the end of the day, most of the features that are available on the Laramie, and also available on the Bighorns (it's just a difference between standard equipment and optional equipment). Some will say that if you're going to fully option a Bighorn, you might as well jump to a Laramie since costs will be about the same. The same goes for if you're going to fully option a Laramie, you might as well jump to a Limited.

In the end, it just comes down to what options are your must-have and what you can do without. If you can get the options you're looking for in the Bighorn, I'd go with that, then add leather after the fact (if that's the route you want to go).

Bighorns also see the biggest rebates from Ram...sometimes as much as $4000 more (compared to a Laramie) depending on what region you're in.

IMO it looks and feels great and is one of the reasons I went Laramie over Bighorn. I realize the "leather" on the dash is probably just vinyl, but I prefer it to the plain plastic dash of lower trims.

@SCasey89.. Nailed it. Best bang for the buck... Precisely why I went with the Big Horn, along with price ($38,700 vs $45k minimum.) Fully loaded Big Horn but without all the Laramie features that I decided I didn’t need. In the end it’s a personal choice as to how many “Extras” do you want/need? I didn’t want the pano roof, the 12in screen , leather interior, and ventilated seats. The ONLY two things I’d love to have are the proximity entry and reclining rear seats... but not for an extra $7k!

Also, the Big Horns typically have a lot more price incentives than the Laramies.

All great advice. I really wanted the Advance Safety Group, but it is currently unavailable. I have a Big Horn priced how I want it and a Larime with basicly the same items for $1K more. Waiting to see pricing in ordering to decide. The rebates on the Big Horn are $4,250 with 0%, don't know about the Larime yet.

My 2019 Laramie will be four years old in July of this year and if the leather is a lower grade than the Limited it has me fooled. Going on 50,000 miles and the leather portion of the seats have held up remarkable well.

Having had two Big Horns in a row I was all set for another until I started pricing out a truck. I found that with the equipment I wanted a Laramie came within $1100 (more) than a Big Horn, and I got some things that I wanted without ordering the Level 1 and Level 2 on the Big Horn. The Big Horn would still leave me without a power passenger seat and a black grill inserts.

In '19 the optional Canyon Brown interior was different between the two models as well, and I liked the Laramie version much better.
