Trying to see if others with the black appearance package have a different color on their front quarter panel near their lights? It almost looks brown to me. It is not the same diamond black color with the silver flecks in it like the rest of the truck. Think they put on the wrong front panels in assembly?

That is typical of all vehicles where you have a plastic panel meeting a metal panel. The different substrates affect the paint color ever so slightly. It is more noticeable on white vehicles.

My Rebel with Diamond Black does not look anything like that at any angle or lighting. They match perfectly. I would go back to your dealer and see if any other units look like that. If not then make the dealer replace the front quarters and show them the difference.

If the plastic parts are primed properly they will not leech out and change the color of the paint. Toyota back in the early 2000s was known for this problem even on the their Lexus brand. Almost all brands have corrected for the issue.

I have looked at numerous ones and never seen a Ram look like that - something is off.

How/WHY did you even take delivery of the truck like that?

Just curious?

Rick

Saw the truck before purchase indoors, after they cleaned it coming off the delivery truck, I didn’t notice it. It is dark at 4pm here in the winter and I picked it up at 5pm and also in the rain...you can’t notice it unless you are at the right angle, in the sun, not sure I would have noticed it in my excitement.

It almost looks like that body panel has been repainted. I wonder if that panel was damaged in transit, or on the dealership lot. Maybe the dealership replaced/resprayed that panel. Check around the wheel well and under the front bumper, for evidence of body work. Look for missing clips, push pins, push pins that have screwdriver marks, etc.

Both sides are the same, both slightly off color.

To me it looks like it’s missing the metallic flakes that the regular diamond crystal black paint has in it.

I think those panels are pre painted before they are bolted to the truck (not painted with the rest of the truck). Looks like they got a bad batch.

it’s definitely missing the flakes. It is also more chocolate color, than black. In the dark, or rain, you can’t tell. In the direct sun was where I noticed it.

This should be a fairly easy thing to remedy. Take a flash light to the dealership and show them that panel had little to no flake in it and the color difference. They should be able to replace the panel.

I had a black dodge charger that had this same thing. It's a difference of material, is what I was told. The fenders had like a greenish tint to it if you held a light to it, whereas the plastic parts were completely black. It would bother me if I noticed it. I'll have to check mine when I leave work.
