Hey everyone, I purchased a new ram the other day. Ivory limited. When they pulled the truck up it was an entirely different truck than I thought I was negotiating. It had chrome bumpers and not body colored. It as almost a deal breaker but they gave me 700 cash back. Needles to say I have a hookup from another dealer that said theyd swap my chrome for another limited bumpers that are ivory. Mine is a 2020 there is 2019. I have a few concerns. Would paint match perfect being different years possible different batches? After trying to find a silver lining in the situation I read how chrome holds well oppose to the painted. I like in western pa where salt and snow are common. I do a lot of highway driving. Am I better actually just keeping the chrome? I feel at loss now because the white is what I wanted but now I feel I may be second guessing my entire situaton. What are your thoughts.

Although I believe the colored bumpers look better, they will pick up stone chips. I suggest you pick up some touch up paint to keep them looking good.

I have body colored bumpers. they look great but they are going to be beat to crap in 3 years. I spend lot of time driving through corn fields and the stalks will just sand the paint right off the bumper.

It it is killing you, take your $700 gift and put that towards a good aftermarket bumper.

I don’t like the look of the chrome bumpers at all. That said, my painted bumpers are a mess after owning the truck for 13 months. I have touch up paint, but there is way too many chips to touch up, literally 100’s. If I had to do it over again, I still would have got the painted bumpers, but would have had PPF installed on the front bumper/fascia immediately. I am considering having the front bumper painted in the spring. It’s that bad. I have a spare car - a 2005 Buick, and it has nowhere near the amount of paint chips as my truck. They use very little clear coat on these trucks.

I say use those bumpers through your first winter. If it still bothers you net year, do the swap. Also I wouldn’t use a bumper that’s sat outside for a year and accept that it will match. Your color is already finicky to begin with. Please keep us posted as to your decision and enjoy that truck.

I don't have any pictures but I've had painted bumpers on my 11' & 14' Longhorns & now my 19' Limited. I live in Maryland and drive a a lot of highway. Without a doubt your lower bumper will look like it got hit with buckshot after no time at all. My 11 didn't have PPF and my other 2 did. The PPF completely stops the chipping. I'll never buy another vehicle without having the money set aside for PPF day 1. On a side note my brother also has a 19 limited without PPF and after a month or 2 he already started getting a bunch of chips on the lower bumper.

As far as the bumper swap from the dealer I'm not sure they can do that. The color match is an optioned line item and it would change the window sticker of the one they are removing them from. I may be wrong though.

Are you having the PPF applied only to the bumpers? Or is the coverage more extensive?

My painted bumpers are ridiculously stone chipped and look like crap. I bought off the lot and wish mine had chrome bumpers. I have even considered swapping the painted out. I’d stick with chrome but that’s just me.

for the rams the PPF kits come in many different pieces. I personally only do the lower bumper because i feel like that takes the vast majority of the damage and I wasn't looking to spend thousands. You get the best bang for your buck with the best coverage. If cost is no object then by all means do the entire kit

Trust me GET the PPF on your bumper. So far I have seen no significant chipping anywhere BUT on my painted bumper. It is looking like crap.

I've no prior experience with PPF so I didn't realize they were sold in kits. I assumed it was like window tint, where you take a generic sheet and cut it to fit. Or like a colored vinyl wrap.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into what's available for the bumpers.

I love the painted bumpers and grill, chrome was a deal breaker for me. That said, my bumpers are in perfect shape with zero chips at 14,000 miles

Bull bars, cattle catcher! thresher on the front bumper. go mad max to protect the OEM paintjob. the DOT will understand that your front end is a rolling murder spree in the name of factory paint preservation.

seriously, driving through corn fields sounds kind of awesome.

You are very lucky. I have barely 10,000 miles on mine and the front bumper is a disaster. I basically only drive highways with it so that is a big factor. I would never get painted bumpers again.

I got my front bumper PPF'd right after I bought it, 16,000 miles and still looks brand new. PPF on painted metal bumpers is a must, if a stone hits it will chip. It's not like a panted plastic bumper that will deflect some.

I traded a 2012 Silverado with painted bumpers and they looked new when I traded due to getting a clear bra right away. Now I just got a 2020 ram Laramie sport appearance package and first thing I did was get the clear bra. No regrets
