Adding "grip" to pen holder

I keep a pen in my dash pen holder (see pic with tan pen) but when I take turns, it slides around. I'm looking for ideas on what I could put in there that has some grip to it so the pen won't slide. Sure, I could crawl through turns to prevent it but then I'd be holding up traffic. Any suggestions?

Maybe some kind of 3M sticky tape or tape backed rubber strips...

Velcro around your pen and a spot? Or just put it in your center console tray?

Other than that you need something to create enough friction between the pen and the area.

Would definitely consider velcro if it was something I was going to do long term

Maybe a little strip of rubber carpet backer / non-slip mat?

Other option might be a magnet - I think those space pens are magnetic or at least magnetic enough

Thanks for the suggestion. The velcro seems too permanent for the pen. I often have a chapstick in there as well and don't want to have to start attaching velcro to anything I might want to put there.

I'll look into the rubber carpet backer idea. That makes me think of the rolls of rubbery drawer liners, which might work if cut to size...

Something like this, maybe you can find a smaller piece or you're okay spending $15.

your local dollar store would definitely have rolls of that in their drawerliner / tuppeware section, but that won't prevent the front/back roll (which would drive me nuts), I'd opt for a neodymium magnet like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R17XH4Y - plus, magnets are just generally useful to have around (hold keys, pocket knife, etc in place in the center armrest)

I have clipped my pens to that little side pocket below that console near my lower driving foot leg. Works for me and it is out of the way but in arms length reach. It will not move if your pen clip has the right amount of retention.

Find a suitable size LED flashlight or mini-maglight to place in the tray next to your pen. (I've got the same issue. As yet, unresolved.)

Those magnets are nice and strong. It wouldn't help with the chapstick, however.

That's thinking outside the box, right there...

I'll be honest, I was stumped for a quick minute haha - every problem's just looking for a solution!

You know though, It makes me consider 3D printing a 'clip' that could hold pens, chapstick etc in that tray, would be easy to make and apply with command strips or something similar
