Wow, does time fly! Today, marks the one year anniversary of the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 making its debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Michigan. Yesterday we saw the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty lineup make its big debut, but the 2019 Ram 1500 has been in production for a year now and the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty models are just starting to be produced for the same model year.
So we decided to look back at what we think are five biggest moments thus far in the 2019 model year, for the all-new 2019 Ram 1500…
#1 – The Debut
Of course, we wouldn’t have called this a “Throwback Tuesday” article if we didn’t reflect on what happened exactly a year ago today. The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 (DT) models, came to Detroit and took the automotive world by storm. The truck was so popular at NAIAS, that it took “Best In Show” and the automotive press didn’t spend much time checking out its new competition from Chevrolet, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.
#2 – Introduction of the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn
Sure the launch of the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 went great in Detroit, but they only showed a few different models on the floor of NAIAS. Two weeks later, we were treated to another introduction. This time it was to the premium Laramie Longhorn model. What made the Laramie Longhorn launch so important was the debut of that beautiful interior. The leather, the real barn-wood accents, the detailed tooling in all the satin-chrome trim pieces and “Longhorn” branding mark burned on the wood-trimmed upper glove box door, showed that the cheap interiors from Ram’s past were truly gone!
#3 – Introduction of the Canada-Only 2019 Ram 1500 Sport
OK, we have been getting a ton of compliant e-mails from day one from our American readers that this truck isn’t sold stateside. But the 2019 Ram 1500 Sport for the Canadian market, was to be a direct replacement for Canada’s most popular model the 1500 Sport. The 2019 Ram 1500 Sport, sits right between the Big Horn Sport and Laramie Sport models. Powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI, unique designed seats, black trimmed headlamps, tail lamps, exhaust tips and badging, Sport branding and the Rebel’s Sport performance hood, it is a perfect package for the 1500 in our eyes. Our editor Jared Balfour, was lucky enough to get his hands on one this summer for a test drive thanks to our friends at Abbotsford Chrysler. Let’s just say he had a hard time returning the keys after the test drive.
#4 – Ram Rebel 12 Edition
So Ram listened to what customers wanted and made a special edition 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel with a 12.1-inch Uconnect system as an option that included the killer 900-watt Harman Kardon sound system. So many owners of the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel wrote to us the day of the announcement complaining, that was the truck they had originally wanted. We had to step back from the e-mail. That was until a couple days later, when our Canadian viewers got the announcement the same package was coming to Canada along with the same options on the 2019 Ram 1500 Sport. It became e-mail overload.
#5 – Motor Trend Truck of the Year
Sure the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 has been racking up award wins left and right over the past year. But if you are an automaker especially selling pickups, there is no other award that you would rather have than the Motor Trend title. As for the staff at Motor Trend, it was an easy pick for the Ram 1500 to win. Now, FCA is celebrating and thanking their employees with the title plastered not only on commercials and magazine ads but on their headquarters were hundreds of thousands of Metro Detroiters drive by every day.
