2026 Ram 1500 Buyers Guide: The Comprehensive Guide to Powertrains, Towing, Options, and Trims

Here is your comprehensive breakdown on the 2026 Ram 1500 Lineup

2026 Ram 1500 Buyer’s Guide

The 2026 Ram 1500 lineup delivers more powertrain choices, clearer trim separation, and expanded technology than ever before. With four distinct engines, multiple cab and bed configurations, and trims that range from work-ready to ultra-luxury, Ram has covered the half-ton truck segment, but buying a half-ton truck can be complex. This guide is designed to help you cut through the complexity and choose the right Ram 1500 for your wants and needs.

Quick takeaway

The 2026 Ram 1500 lineup spans multiple trims, engines, and cab/bed layout, this guide breaks down what’s standard, what’s optional, and which configuration makes the most sense for how you actually drive, tow, and live with your truck.

What’s New for 2026

For 2026, Ram responds directly to customer feedback with the return of the 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 eTorque and the reintroduction of Express and Black Express trims. Three new paint colors join the lineup: Molten Red Pearl-Coat, Silver Zynith, and *Serrano-Green Metallic (*late availability). Ram continues to keep things fresh on the heels of a 2025 refresh that introduced the Hurricane engine family, and some nice upgrades to the Ram 1500, such as making safety features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and blind spot monitoring standard across the lineup.

Powertrains Overview

Why this matters:
Not every engine is available on every trim. Choosing the right powertrain is one of the most important decisions you’ll make, especially if you plan to tow or haul regularly.

Detailed Towing Tables

How to Read These Towing Charts

  • Start with your exact configuration: cab/bed + 4×2/4×4.
  • Match the drivetrain row: engine + axle ratio. The axle ratio can change towing a lot.
  • Use “Max Trailer” as your quick answer: that’s the maximum trailer weight rating for that row.
  • GCWR matters for real-world loading: it’s the combined max of truck + trailer.
  • Payload is the limiter people forget: passengers, cargo, accessories, and tongue weight all count against it.

Column meanings (as shown in the factory chart): GVWR (truck max), GAWR (axle max), GCWR (combined max), and Max Trailer (factory maximum trailer rating).
