The Ram Truck brand has been present in the Brazilian market since 2005, which is four years before it became a standalone brand separate from Dodge. While the 3/4-ton Ram 2500 Crew Cab Laramie 4×4 has been the only available vehicle in the brand’s lineup, the most recent update to the fourth-generation Heavy Duty become a huge success in the Brazilian market, it has allowed the Ram to re-evaluate efforts in bringing the more civilized fifth-generation Ram 1500 half-ton to the market.
Starting in 2021, Ram will launch its American-built 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel Crew Cab 4×4 in the Brazilian market for the first time. As the first premium “muscle truck” in Brazil, the Rebel will be powered by the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 delivering a robust 400 horsepower and 56.7 kgfm (410 lb.-ft.) of torque. The Rebel’s ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in just 6.4 seconds, makes it stand out against most of the smaller vehicles offered in the country. It is backed by the 8HP75 TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission with more than 40 individual maps to optimize gear changes and provide more fuel economy, performance, and handling.
The arrival of Ram 1500 inaugurates a new chapter for the brand, expanding not only the portfolio but also its audience. “We identified that there is an interest in a full-size pickup with a V8 gasoline engine in consumer clinics. The objective of 1500 is to be a unique product on the market, the first premium muscle truck in Brazil, and for that reason, we resort to HEMI, an iconic engine with enormous tradition, enthusiastic appeal and the ability to provide incredible sensory experiences ”, says Breno Kamei, director of the Ram brand for Latin America. “In this way, we get closer to a clientele more located in the big capitals and their surroundings, different from the profile of Ram 2500, whose buyers are concentrated in the agribusiness regions, in the interior of the country.”
With initial deliveries starting in April, the Ram 1500 Rebel has entered a pre-sale process of the initial 100 units starting last night (December 10th) on the Ram Trucks Brazil website. There, a customer can make a reservation for R $20,000 (or about $3,980 USD), which will be deducted from the total price of the truck.
There are currently two available options that a customer can spec their truck from. There is the Rebel Level I, which retails for R $399,990 (or $79,590 USD). That includes the 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel Crew Cab 4×4 with standard 12-inch Uconnect infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, Mopar tri-fold tonneau cover, and RamBox storage as standard equipment.
The Rebel Level II package, adds the popular Rebel Night Edition appearance package with its blacked-out theme (which includes a blacked-out R-A-M badge, black badging, black front skid plate, and black wheels), upgraded 900-watt Harman Kardon 19-speaker sound system with subwoofer, Multifunction Tailgate, and the all-new Technology Group on top of the standard features from the Rebel Level I. The Rebel Level II retails for R $419,990 (or $83,565 USD).
The initial 100 units available that Ram is taking orders for are for the Rebel Level II package. The Rebel Level I package will arrive not long after. The two Rebel Level packages are the only available configurations for the Brazilian marketplace. Each of the packages is only available as a Crew Cab model with the 5-foot, 7-inch box layout and is only available with four-wheel-drive (4×4).
Speaking of four-wheel-drive, the Rebel’s part-time BorgWarner 48-12 transfer case offers 4×4 HI and 4×4 LO models. The driver can control everything electronically, using buttons next to the Ram 1500’s rotary gear selector on the instrument panel. The entire traction system is characterized by robustness, translating into the off-road capability of the Ram 1500 Rebel and the power to tow 5,062 kg or 11,160 lbs., the second-largest capacity in Brazil, behind only the Ram 2500 (7,861 kg or 17,330 lbs).
The Rebel also features Hill Descent Control, a 2.5 cm (or 1-inch) suspension lift, rear differential with an electronic lock, and special Bilstein shock absorbers with remote oil reservoirs. While you might think the Rebel would be also wearing its aggressive Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac rubber, it ditches the Duratracs for Falken Wildpeak A/T all-season tires. Those are the same ones found on the 4×4 Off-Road Package on trucks equipped with 18-inch wheels.
When it comes to safety, the 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel is one of the highest-rated vehicles in the Brazilian market. The truck features six airbags (including front, side, and curtain), Hill-Start Assist, traction, stability controls, as well as mitigation of body-roll, and the largest available front brakes at 14.9 inches for superb stopping distance.
The 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel is also the only pickup in the Brazilian market to feature a semi-autonomous parallel and perpendicular parking system (Park Assist), which includes front and rear parking sensors. The Ram 1500 also has adaptive speed control (ACC) with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Warning-Plus, thanks to the use of electrical assistance in the direction, and oscillation control of trailer (TSC).
Mopar has put together a great program to serve Rebel owners in the Brazilian market as well. This includes warranty coverage, aftermarket parts and accessories, as well as service programs that can be customized pending the customer’s preferences.
