CAUGHT: 2021 Ram 1500 Lone Star Crew Cab 4×4 Off-Road:

New Model Year, Brings More Technology To More Budget Friendly Packages...

Last week, 5thGenRams.com showed a couple of new 2021 Ram 1500 prototypes (including the new 707 horsepower TRX) featuring several new technology items for the upcoming model year. Now, spy photographers have caught another 2021 Ram 1500 model out on public roads showcasing some of those new technology items as well.

This 2021 Ram 1500 Lone Star Crew Cab 4×4 Offroad is showing us, that it won’t be just the premium trim-levels who are taking advantage of the new technology updates for the new model year. For those who aren’t familiar, the Lone Star is exclusive to Texas and is the brand’s top-selling trim-level in the “Lone Star” state. The Lone Star is based on the popular mid-level Big Horn trim.

Thanks to the single exhaust and blank spot under the “1500” badge on the hood, we can tell that this model is powered by the standard award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with mild-hybrid eTorque system delivering 305 horsepower and 269 lb.-ft. of torque. While it does have a standard powertrain, this truck does have some interesting options like the Off-Road Group which adds an electronic locking rear axle, skid plates, off-road tires, and heavy-duty shocks. This truck also features one of our favorite options, the Ram Multifunction Tailgate which allows the customer to use its dual side-hinged tailgate doors further enhance the 1500’s bed access and utility.

We can clearly see the new center high-mount LED stop lamp with cargo view camera equipped on the back of the cab on this Lone Star. The new cargo view camera is integrated into the center high-mount LED stop lamp and provides a view of the bed to assist with trailer hook-up or checking on the truck’s cargo. Since the 2021 Ram 1500 (DT) pickups are a fifth-generation Ram pickup and the current Ram Heavy Duty (DJ and D2) models are still based on the fourth-generation pickups, which results in a different cab design, the center high-mount LED stop lamp features a completely different design than the unit on the Heavy Duty models.

The 2021 Ram 1500 center high-mount LED stop lamp unit features a split red LED light and white LED cargo light design. The High-Definition (HD) camera is located to the right of the light housing. While Ram, has yet to release any information or pricing on the 2021 Ram 1500, the current 2020 Ram Heavy Duty pickups offer a similar system which adds about $345 to the cost of the pickup.

Judging by the features on this truck and using the RamTrucks.com Build & Price configurator, this Lone Star with the Level 2 package hovers around the $50,000 mark before incentives. So this is the first proof of the new technology making its way across the lineup. It will join other new technology features such as the new trailer steering assist, similar to Ford’s Pro Trailer Backup Assistâ„¢, the new system makes the challenge of backing up a trailer as easy as turning a knob.

Production of the 2021 Ram 1500 is Monday, August 31st, 2020 at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan according to sources close to 5thGenRams.com.
