Ram Confirms 1500 BEV Concept Pickup Will Make Appearance By End Of 2022!

STLA Frame Platform To Be Evolution Of Wagoneer Platform...

Some interesting news has been dropped about the upcoming 2024 Ram 1500 battery-electric vehicle (BEV) at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). According to a report from the Automotive News, Ram will introduce a concept version of its upcoming zero-emission pickup truck later this year.

Over the past year, we have seen Ford upfit its F-150 to include an all-electric architecture with the introduction of the F-150 Lightning. General Motors (GM) on the other hand, have completely gone a different direction by introducing an all-new dedicated platform for its GMC Hummer EV pickup and Chevrolet Silverado EV. While we do know that Ram will use the new STLA Frame architecture, an evolution of the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer (WS) platform (which in itself is an evolution of the fifth-generation Ram 1500 platform).

Stellantis has yet to release any specifics about the new STLA Frame architecture, but we expect the Ram 1500 BEV to look very familiar with what can be seen underneath the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer. Of course, instead of the internal combustion engine (ICE), we will see Stellantis’ Electric Drive Modules (EDMs) and a massive battery pack.

Ram is currently hosting its “Ram Real Talk Tour“, a series of year-long conversations with customers at various events to better understand what the Ram 1500 BEV and its Range Electric Paradigm Breaker (REPB) counterpart must do to meet their needs. The REPB model will join the BEV in 2024, as an alternative to the all-electric propulsion system.

Stellantis has promised that the new Ram 1500 BEV will have a capability of up to 500 miles of range. This again easily surpasses competitors’ claims, which have ranges more around the 300-mile mark. Stellantis has also said that its battery packs will feature fast charging capabilities (up to 150 kW) and have a class-leading fast charging capability of 20 miles per minute. That again seems too good to be true, as Ford states that the F-150 Lightning with the extended range battery can charge up to 54 miles in 10 minutes using a 150 kW DC Fast Charge.

The 2024 Ram 1500 BEV will feature the Stellantis EDM #3 eMotor, which is capable of 330 kW of power output. With four-wheel drive (4×4), the Ram 1500 BEV will have at least a dual eMotor setup that could allow for 660 kW of power (or 885 horsepower combined). A possible tri-eMotor setup could be offered for higher-performance models, delivering 990 kW (or 1,328 horsepower combined). The GMC Hummer EV pickup offers a tri-eMotor eAWD system, for 745 kW (or 1,000 horsepower combined).

With a concept version of the Ram 1500 BEV due by the end of the year, we expect Ram will show off the electrified concept at this year’s North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, which is scheduled in September. Ram has introduced the 2019 Ram 1500 and the Heavy Duty models there, it makes sense with the Ram being built in the suburbs of Detroit to showcase the truck in its backyard.
