Ram trucks still has one 2019 Ram 1500 trim level up their sleeves that has not been shown off yet. The 2019 Ram 1500 HFE model should be coming on line around the time that the Pentastar v6 with eTorque begins production this summer.
HFE stands for high fuel efficiency and has been a trim option in the past on Ram 1500 V6 and V6 EcoDiesel equipped trucks.
The 2019 Ram 1500 HFE model will be available as a V6 with eTorque quad cab, 6’4 bed with 2wd only. It will slot in between the Tradesman and Big Horn models and feature a standard chrome grille, wheel to wheel sidesteps and a tonneau cover. The only axle ratio available will be the 3.21 ratio and the truck will come standard with the small 23 gallon fuel tank. Color choices will be limited to Diamond Black of Bright white.
Overall the HFE should appeal to people looking for a moderately equipped pickup truck that are looking to squeeze every last mile out of a gallon of gas. While fuel economy numbers have not yet been released 5thgenrams has seen a leaked dealer document that listed the V6 as having a 27 MPG highway number. This is not yet an EPA official number and we don’t know if that is for the HFE model or not.
