What’s The Difference? Ram’s REV Versus Ramcharger

Two Electrified Options Are Coming In 2025, What Is The Best For You?

In a bold step towards the future, Ram has unveiled two groundbreaking additions to their lineup of electrified trucks – the 2025 Ram 1500 REV and Ram 1500 Ramcharger. These vehicles represent a paradigm shift in pickups, combining cutting-edge electric technology with the rugged performance that Ram trucks are renowned for. But for how similar they are, they are very much different. So, let’s take a look at both trucks and see what they have to offer.

Powertrain –

The 2025 Ram 1500 REV sets a new standard in electric truck performance with dual 250-kilowatt electric drive modules (EDMs) delivering exceptional power. This translates to 654 horsepower and 620 lb.-ft. of torque, propelling the REV from 0 to 60 mph in an impressive 4.4 seconds.

Two different-sized battery packs will be offered on the REV, a standard 168-kWh battery pack with an optional 229-kWh large battery pack, offering a targeted range of up to 350 miles and an unsurpassed 500 miles, respectively. Charging is swift and convenient, with the ability to add up to 110 miles of range in just 10 minutes using 800-volt DC fast charging at up to 350 kW.

On the other hand, the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger boasts a formidable 250-kW front and 238-kW rear EDM setup, generating a powerful 663 horsepower and 615 lb.-ft. of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in the same 4.4 seconds.

The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger delivers innovative performance with a liquid-cooled 92-kWh battery pack and is paired with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine on-board 130-kW generator to the EDMs. The Pentastar V6 does not drive the wheels at all in this application. The combination of a fully-charged battery pack and a full gas tank for the generator creates a driving range of 690 miles based on testing. Ramcharger also offers customers a quick and convenient recharging solution that can add up to 50 miles of all-electric range in approximately 10 minutes with 400-volt DC fast charging up to 145 kW.

Towing / Payload –

Regarding towing, both trucks showcase Ram’s commitment to capability. The REV and Ramcharger can tow up to 14,000 lbs., providing owners with the versatility needed for work or recreational activities. This will exceed the internal combustion engine (ICE) Ram 1500. Payload capacity is also impressive, with both models capable of handling up to 2,700 lbs. (REV) and 2,625 lbs. (Ramcharger), ensuring that these trucks are as practical as they are powerful.

Architecture / Supension –

2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger STLA Frame Architecture. (Ram).

The REV and Ramcharger share the same STLA Frame architecture, explicitly designed for full-size electric vehicles with a body-on-frame structure. This platform ensures a robust foundation while efficiently incorporating the battery pack. The EDMs in both models combine the motor, gearbox, and inverter, delivering all-wheel-drive capability for optimal performance in various conditions. The trucks feature a multi-link independent rear suspension (IRS) with standard, segment-exclusive, active-level, four-corner air suspension and adaptive damping, guaranteeing a smooth and controlled ride.

Exterior Design –

While both models retain Ram’s iconic and muscular design, they exhibit distinct visual characteristics. The REV boasts a modern, contemporary aesthetic with signature lit “tuning fork” premium LED headlamps and a lit R-A-M badge, showcasing the electrified future of the Ram 1500 lineup. And because the REV is purely electric, it will also get a new powered front trunk (frunk) offering best-in-class 15 cu.-ft. of storage.

The Ramcharger, on the other hand, seamlessly blends new themes from the gas-powered Ram 1500 with those of the REV, featuring a forward-leaning grille, the electrified R-A-M badge, and the same EV-specific premium LED taillight design integrated into the tailgate as the REV on higher trim models.

Interior Features –

Inside the cabin, both trucks offer unparalleled luxury and technology. Premium materials, including carbon fiber, metal, and leather elements, elevate the interior. The advanced Uconnect 5 system with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and an optional segment-first 10.25-inch passenger screen ensure a seamless and intuitive user experience.

The Tungsten trim in both models takes the luxury quotient further with features like an ultra-premium Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system, heated and ventilated premium quilted leather seats, and a suede-wrapped headliner.

In conclusion, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV and Ramcharger signify Ram’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive industry. While both models share a common electrified platform and a host of features, they cater to different preferences and needs. The REV excels in balancing performance and efficiency for daily use. At the same time, the Ramcharger emphasizes power and range, making it an ideal choice for those with long-distance towing requirements.
