WATCH: This 392 HEMI-Swapped 5thGen Ram Tears Up The Dragstrip

This Hydro Blue Quad Cab Is A Sleeper...

A few weeks ago, videos surfaced of a Hydro Blue 2021 Ram 1500 Quad Cab running deep into the 11’s at the drag strip. Thanks to the video above on Incredible Hemi’s YouTube Channel we know a bit more about the truck.

Starting life as a 5.7 Hemi equipped truck, this has had a 392 swapped under the hood with a few goodies. The mod list is as follows:

In the video, the truck lays down an 11.69 quarter mile at just shy of 115 MPH, for reference a stock TRX will run around an 11.9-12.3 at 110 MPH. The 1.65 60-foot time is also impressive, considering the weight of the truck and relatively minor modifications to the 6.4 Hemi under the hood. Speaking of weight, according to the owner’s Instagram, this truck weighs in at 5500 lbs.

More impressive is that this truck puts down numbers almost identical to the drag-racing-oriented Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 runs. Claimed to run an 11.7 at 115 MPH, the Scat Pack 1320 is a ton of fun (I had one, I know) but can’t do a bunch of stuff that this truck can.

Have I mentioned that this truck is the owner’s daily driver? In fact, he regularly uses his 392 swapped 5th Gen Ram to tow his 4th Gen Ram race truck to the dragstrip.

I think this is a really cool truck, and above that is a relatively simple build. The owner even claims to get better fuel mileage with the 6.4 under the hood than previously with the 5.7. Last year during fuel economy testing, I also got better fuel mileage out of a 6.4-powered Jeep Grand Wagoneer than I did out of our old 5.7-powered 2022 Ram 1500 Limited.

Although we wouldn’t see this level of performance out of a factory 392 powered half ton, it really helps highlight the fact that the 392 should have been a factory option in these trucks, and is a shame we will never see it.
