Back in August, we told you about a recall Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) had issued to an estimated 186,233 of its 2019 to 2020 Ram 1500 (DT) pickup trucks, due to a clearance issue on trucks equipped with power-adjustable pedals and the optional Mopar all-weather floor mats.
The recall followed an FCA investigation launched after a customer reported a floor mat had interfered with the accelerator pedal while driving. The customer used brake-throttle override to safely stop the vehicle. FCA was unaware of any related accidents or injuries. All of the affected vehicles are equipped with brake-throttle override, which enables a continuous brake-pedal application to automatically overcome simultaneous accelerator-pedal application. Introduced to FCA’s lineup in 2003, brake-throttle override has been standard equipment on all FCA vehicles since 2011.
The recall also covered an estimated 43,148 Mopar all-weather floor mats sold as aftermarket equipment. As for the vehicles from the factory, an estimated 160,229 vehicles in the U.S. and additional vehicles in Canada (est. 21,937), Mexico (est. 872), and certain markets outside North America (3,195).
Recall notices were sent to customers to bring in their floor mats for modification, pending an exchange for new mats with an improved design. Recently, FCA began issuing mats with a new design for the driver’s mat, which includes a longer gap in the pattern from the indention divet to the mat’s tread than before. Giving more clearance for the power-adjustable pedals (as shown in the picture above).
For those who have been issued a recall, you can contact your local Ram Truck dealer for information and set up a schedule to receive your replacement.
