Since its introduction, we have received a lot of questions surrounding the supercharged 2021 Ram 1500 TRX performance off-roader. One of the biggest has to deal with what its fuel economy ratings would be. Well, Ram Trucks has officially pulled the curtain off of the truck’s estimated Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) fuel economy score and this is one dino who is going to be relying on a lot of fossil fuels to help propel it.
The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX has achieved a fuel economy rating of 10 mpg city, 14 mpg highway, and 12 mpg combined. Not as stellar numbers when compared to other HELLCAT-powered vehicles from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) like the Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trackhawk (13 mpg combined), the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody (15 mpg combined) or the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat (15 mpg combined). Nevertheless, what would you expect from a vehicle tipping the scales at 6,350 lbs?
Those numbers are a lot different than the EPA numbers found on the fuel-efficient 2021 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 4×4. The EcoDiesel 4×4 models have a rating of 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.
While the TRX might have fuel economy numbers similar to a Lamborgini Aventador S, it does have loads of capability. The TRX was designed to do high-speed desert running, tackle massive jumps, rock-crawl, and has a maximum payload of 1,310 lbs. and a towing capability of 8,100 lbs. The TRX is also capable of a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.5 seconds, will get up to 100 mph in 10.5 seconds, and will do the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds @ 108 mph, which is faster than the iconic 2004 to 2006 Ram SRT-10 Regular Cab, which did it in 13.6 seconds @ 106 mph, and weighing 1,250 lbs lighter.
It also boasts better fuel economy numbers than the SRT-10 as well, with the Regular Cab model achieving 9 mpg city, 15 mpg highway, and 12 mpg combined and the Quad Cab model receiving 9 mpg city, 12 mpg highway, and 11 mpg combined.
Ram TRX Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) starts at $69,995, not including $1,695 destination charge. It will be arriving in dealer showrooms in the fourth quarter of this year.
