Stellantis Delays All-Electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV Release

Stellantis has officially delayed the release of its all-electric 2025 Ram 1500 REV, originally scheduled to debut in late 2024, to sometime in 2025. Despite this, the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger—a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV)—remains on track for its first-quarter 2025 launch.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares pointed to the significant workload of managing multiple high-profile vehicle launches as a primary reason for the delay.

“We are just facing a very significant amount of workload, and we want to be very prudent in the way we validate the products,” Tavares explained during a media event. “It’s better to take a few weeks more to validate properly than to rush and then to make mistakes in terms of quality.” In addition to production challenges, Stellantis faces mounting political uncertainty in the U.S. President-Elect Donald Trump has voiced intentions to roll back many of the Biden administration’s electric vehicle (EV) initiatives.

Political Changes Could Impact EV Strategy – 

President-elect Trump’s transition team has already announced plans to eliminate the $7,500 federal tax credit for EV purchases as part of broader tax reform. If implemented, this could create additional hurdles for EV adoption, making electric models like the Ram 1500 REV less financially appealing to consumers. Despite Trump’s potential repeal of incentives, Tavares maintained a flexible stance:

“We will adapt,” he said, acknowledging the challenges of navigating changing regulations.

Stellantis has previously expressed concerns about strict EV regulations while embracing the benefits of electrification. The company is now preparing to roll out several key EV models, including the Dodge Charger Daytona and Jeep® Wagoneer S, both expected by year-end, before fully turning its attention to the Ram lineup.

Under the hood, the Ram 1500 REV doesn’t compromise on power. With 654 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque, the REV can tow up to 14,000 lbs and carry a maximum payload of 2,700 lbs, making it one of the most powerful electric trucks in its class. As part of Ram’s electrified lineup, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger is designed to deliver maximum power and unmatched efficiency for drivers needing more than just an electric truck. With the inclusion of a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine paired with a 92 kWh battery, the Ramcharger provides an innovative solution for those seeking an electric truck with extended-range capabilities.

The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger features all-wheel drive (AWD) and is powered by dual electric drive modules (EDMs): a 250 kW front motor and a 238 kW rear motor. These motors combine with the onboard generator to offer an intelligent, hybrid system that allows the Ramcharger to seamlessly switch between battery power and the engine’s power to maintain an optimal level of performance. This system ensures that the Ramcharger offers the benefits of electric driving, such as instant torque and low emissions, while the V6 generator provides extended range when the battery is depleted.
