Our friends at Real Fast Fotography, have caught another variant of the new 2020 Ram Heavy Duty. This time they caught a 2020 Ram 5500 prototype doing some highway testing in the Detroit suburbs.
The “DF” platform code on the windshield on the indicates that this is in fact a Ram 5500. Not that the 10-lug wheels weren’t a good enough giveaway. This Ram 5500 Chassis Cab is our first look at a gas-powered HEMI Ram 5500 of the 2020 model year.
We explained about how we think that the 2020 Ram Heavy Duty models are pretty much an updated version of the current Heavy Duty models. These pictures give even more evidence of that. This truck in particular looks to be the 192.5-inch wheelbase version.
The Commercial-Grade version of the 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 engine currently delivers up to 366 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque on the current Ram 5500 Chassis Cab.
Currently the Ram 5500 models come in three different trim models. There is the base Tradesman, mid-level SLT and top-of-the-line Laramie. This particular model looks to be a Tradesman or SLT model. In the current models, the fog-lights and LED tail lights are optional. We still aren’t sure if the will be standard on the current models.
It appears that this Ram 5500 is also using the same brand of tires as the current model does. Continental 225/70R19.5 HSR (steer) and HDR (drive) tires look to be continuing on the updated Ram Chassis Cabs.
On another note, this Ram 5500 Chassis Cab was testing with the 2019 Ram 1500 Limited with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 that we talked about last week.
Stay tuned as we continue to breakdown different variants of the upcoming Ram Heavy Duty models.
