Ram is set to launch its latest offering in the European market. In the coming weeks, Ram will introduce the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine with the eTorque mild-hybrid system, known for its power and high performance, to European enthusiasts. This move aligns with Ram’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and represents a step towards convergence with engines with lower environmental impacts.
The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque engine is an exciting addition to Ram’s lineup. Boasting an impressive 305 horsepower and 364 Nm (273 lb.-ft.) of torque, this engine delivers power and durability. It will be available in three iconic Ram models: the Ram 1500 Big Horn, Ram 1500 Laramie, and Ram 1500 Rebel.
At the German GP, held at the Teutschenthal circuit this weekend, Ram will unveil the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque engine to enthusiasts and the press. This prestigious event is an ideal platform to showcase the engine’s capabilities.
The Pentastar V6 eTorque engine incorporates innovative electronic components that enhance its performance. Notably, it features the eTorque mild-hybrid system, which replaces the traditional alternator. The engine is powered by a 430-watt-hour lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) graphite battery pack, delivering a 48-volt current during launch and gear shifting. A 3-kilowatt DC-to-DC converter supports a conventional 12-volt starter motor for efficient cold starts in extreme temperatures.
The engine’s advanced technologies, such as wide-range variable valve timing and two-step variable valve lift, ensure optimal power and fuel economy based on the driver’s demand. It also incorporates a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system, enabling improved fuel efficiency and emissions performance at higher loads. With a compression ratio of 11.3:1, the engine achieves an optimal balance of power, fuel efficiency, and refinement. Energy recovery from deceleration and braking further increases towing and payload capacity while recharging the battery pack. Additionally, the engine’s enhanced torque at the crankshaft minimizes noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), providing a comfortable driving experience.
The introduction of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque engine contributes to lower CO2 emissions and appeals to a broader audience, including younger drivers seeking high performance and attractive aesthetics.
