In 2015, the RAM brand introduced the Ram 1500 HFE or “High Fuel Efficiency” model. Based on the Tradesman Quad Cab 4×2 with the 6-foot, 4-inch box and powered by the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, the original HFE models created the ultimate fuel-efficient full-size truck capable of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certified 29 MPG highway. A pretty bold statement then.
Fast forward to the introduction of the fifth-generation Ram 1500, the HFE nameplate returned to the Trademan lineup with the Quad Cab 4×2 configuration. However, this time Ram decided to equip the HFE with the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with the eTorque mild-hybrid system. The combination was good enough for an EPA estimated 20 MPG City / 26 MPG Hwy / 23 MPG Combined. The result was a package that wasn’t as efficient as its predecessor and fell short of the standard EcoDiesel offerings.
It was almost a year ago, that RAM introduced the 2021 Ram 1500 Tradesman HFE EcoDiesel. The HFE EcoDiesel didn’t replace the HFE Pentastar model but now sat alongside it offering two distinct fuel-efficient models. The EcoDiesel variant is offered in either a Crew Cab 4×2 configuration with a 5-foot, 7-inch box or a 6-foot, 4-inch box. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 allows the big Ram 1500 to achieve an unsurpassed 23 MPG City / 33 MPG Highway / 26 MPG Combined.
As Stellantis moves its brands away from diesel and more toward electrics, RAM continues to offer the Ram 1500 Tradesman HFE EcoDiesel for the 2022 model year.
Besides achieving 33 MPG highway, the Ram 1500 Tradesman HFE EcoDiesel is the most capable light-duty pickup on the market by offering the towing capability of up to 12,560 lbs. and delivering up to 1,000 miles (1,609 kilometers) of range on a single tank of fuel.
The Ram 1500 Tradesman HFE EcoDiesel also adds wheel-to-wheel side steps, cloth bucket seats, and a Mopar tonneau cover as standard equipment. A set of 20-inch aluminum wheels from the Big Horn trim are also standard. Customers will have the choice to choose from either Bright White or Diamond Black exterior colors.
The 2022 Ram 1500 Tradesman HFE EcoDiesel is currently open with models starting at a U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $45,406 (excluding $1,795 for destination). For more information, you can contact your local RAM dealer.
