After receiving around 50 awards in the North American market, the fifth-generation Ram 1500 has just received the highest honor in the automotive industry in Brazil. As the country’s first premium “muscle truck”, the Ram 1500 Rebel was named “2022 Pickup Truck of the Year” by Autoesporte magazine.
The “Car of the Year” awards are in their 55th edition and have a panel of judges made up of journalists from the automotive press from all over Brazil. Voting was audited by EY and the results were only revealed at the time of the awarding.
Manufactured in Sterling Heights, Michigan, United States, the Ram 1500 Rebel is the most powerful, fast, and technological pickup in the Brazilian marketplace. In addition to the iconic 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine with 400 horsepower, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 6.4 seconds. The Rebel was responsible for introducing equipment never seen before in pickup trucks in the country, such as semi-autonomous parking capability, Head-Up Display (HUD), and a panoramic sunroof.
The 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel is also a finalist in the “Best Pickup Truck” category at the UOL Carros Awards, which will announce the winners on Wednesday, December 8th.
The Ram 1500 Rebel has been a success for the brand in Brazil. The initial batch of 100 units destined for pre-sale sold out in just 18 hours after opening orders on the evening of December 10th of last year. Since the beginning of deliveries at the end of April, 524 units of the pickup have already been sold until November 30th, according to Fenabrave (an automotive data company from Brazil). The Rebel adds to the 2,189 units of 2021 Ram 2500 Laramie registered, together they mark a total of 2,713 registrations so far this year. That far surpasses the 1,475 units in 2020, which had been the record year for the Ram Truck brand in Brazil.
