Production-Ready 2027 Ram 1500 REV Debuts in Detroit

Ram’s Range-Extended Electric Pickup Quietly Steps Into The Spotlight

The 2026 Detroit Auto Show had no shortage of headlines, but one of the most important trucks on display flew somewhat under the radar. In the Ram display, we got our first real look at the production-ready 2027 Ram 1500 REV, and after seeing it up close, it’s clear this truck represents a major turning point for Ram’s electrified future.

This marks the first time Ram has shown the finalized version of its range-extended electric pickup (REEV), and importantly, what we saw in Detroit is essentially what customers will see in dealerships. The truck on display wore the handsome new Molten Red paint and was presented in Laramie trim, giving us a clean look at how the REV will slot into the core Ram 1500 lineup.

A Different Kind of Electric Truck

Unlike a traditional battery-electric pickup, the Ram 1500 REV uses a range-extender setup designed to remove range anxiety without sacrificing capability. At the heart of the system is a liquid-cooled 92-kWh battery pack paired with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. The engine never drives the wheels directly. Instead, it acts as a 130-kW onboard generator, producing electricity when needed.

Power is sent to dual electric drive modules (EDMs)—250 kW up front and 248 kW in the rear—delivering standard electric all-wheel drive (AWD). When extra power is required, the generator can supplement the battery, feeding energy into the high-voltage system to maximize performance. There’s no mechanical connection between the engine and the axles, which keeps things efficient and smooth.

Ram is targeting 647 horsepower and 610 lb.-ft. of torque, along with a 0–60 mph time of 4.4 seconds. That’s quick by any standard, especially for a full-size pickup.

Capability Still Comes First

Ram didn’t forget this is a truck. The 1500 REV is targeting best-in-class towing of up to 14,000 pounds with a Class 5 hitch, along with a maximum payload rating of 2,625 pounds. The REV will be offered exclusively as a Crew Cab with a 5-foot, 7-inch bed, keeping the lineup simple and focused.

An independent rear suspension paired with segment-exclusive four-corner air suspension gives the REV five ride-height settings, including entry/exit, aero, normal, and two off-road modes. The setup delivers the comfortable ride Ram is known for, while still handling heavy loads with confidence.

Real-World Range and Charging

One of the REV’s biggest talking points is its estimated total range of up to 690 miles on a full charge and a fuel tank of gas. That’s the kind of number that makes electric ownership far less intimidating, especially for truck buyers who tow, travel, or work long distances.

Charging flexibility is another strong point. The Ram 1500 REV supports Level 1, Level 2 (240-volt), and Level 3 DC fast charging (400-volt). Under ideal conditions, DC fast charging can add up to 50 miles of electric range in just 10 minutes, with peak charging rates reaching 145 kW depending on conditions.

The REV also features vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home bi-directional charging. Whether it’s powering a jobsite, running a tailgate party, or keeping the lights on during a power outage, the onboard power panel in the bed can deliver up to 7.2 kW.

Tech-Forward, But Familiar

Inside, the Ram 1500 REV looks and feels like a modern Ram—just turned up a notch. The cabin can feature over 50 inches of combined digital displays, including more than 24 inches of touchscreen real estate. The Laramie shown in Detroit featured the massive 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, a heads-up display (HUD), and a front passenger screen.

Drivers can manage energy use and performance through multiple drive and power modes, including Electric+, E-Save, and Eco, as well as selectable Auto, Sport, Tow, Snow, and Off-Road drive modes. One-Pedal Driving with adjustable regenerative braking is also onboard, making stop-and-go driving easier while recovering energy.

Advanced driver-assist features include Hands-Free Active Driving Assist (L2+), hands-off highway driving on approved roads, and available autonomous parking for both parallel and perpendicular spaces.

Production and Availability

Ram confirmed the 1500 REV will be built at Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan, reinforcing its commitment to domestic production. Trim levels will include Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Limited, and Tungsten, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.

Production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, with trucks expected to reach dealers later this year.

After finally seeing the production-ready Ram 1500 REV in person, it’s clear this isn’t just another electric experiment. Ram is taking a practical, truck-first approach to electrification.
